[Question #4141] Acyclovir Topical
|
I tested positive for HSV-2 herpes. I thought I was asymptomatic. I was prescribed Acyclovir pills. That I just started taking. I also examined myself more carefully and discovered a very minor outbreak. Can I just mush up an Acyclovir pill into a paste and use it as a topical?

so you tested positive by blood antibody test? Which test did you take, IgG or IgM? IgM is worthless and if you tested below 3.5 on the IgG test, that needs confirmation. If you did test positive with an IgG at least than 3.5, I would strongly encourage you to have this outbreak, if that's what it is, swab tested. No, you cannot mush up the pills but there is a topical medicine available though I do not feel and research show there is just no benefit.

Terri,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I tested 18.8 on an IgG test. Let us assume that my outbreak is tested positive for HSV-2. Are you saying that Acyclovir topical has no benefit. Is it just a waste of money?
Also don't the pills and the topical Acyclovir have the same chemical C8H11N5O3?

Yes, all herpes experts believe that topical acyclovir is useless. We don't care of people use it, it likely isn't harmful, but it is not a good use of money
They maybe chemically the same but the oral form is far more usable and absorbed internally and far more effective than the topical form

Again Terri, Thank you for your advice.
If a woman gives me a hand job, can my HSV-2 be transmitted to her?

No, we do not believe that masturbation is a method of transmission of herpes.

Thanks Terri,
I am relieved. My sex life may be diminished, but not over.
