[Question #4945] HSV 1

Hello docs,
I made HSV 1 AND 2 antibodies IG and IM. Hsv 2 it is ok negative for both but for HSV 1 IG is 6,46  and IM it is ok 0,04.
What have to do, have to see one doctor to take some meds and what this is mean IG 6,46 it is something wrong ?
I want to remind you that i had one risk situation with a prostitute 5 month ago (condom broke), it is this hsv 1 related with this incident?

Your index value of 6.46 indicates that you are infected with herpes simplex virus type 1.  This is the cause of recurrent cold sores on the lip or in the nose.  Very common infection. Have you ever in your life had a sore on your lip or in your nose? About half the US population has this infection.  This is extremely unlikely to be related to the contact you had with the sex worker.

Your positive HSV 1 antibody test at 6.46 is simply reflecting your history of cold sores, - that is all.  it is not necessary to take any medicine unless the cold sore really bothers you OR you want to be the giver of oral sex to a partner and reduce the risk of spreading your oral herpes infection to the genital of a sex partner through oral sex.
