Hi there,

Two years ago I was diagnosed G-HSV1 with a culture test. I had very few outbreaks and then about two weeks ago got one and went to the doctor for testing. My igg was positive for hsv 1 only, and hsv 2 negative. They also tested me for HSV 1-reflex igm-ifa, hsv 1 Igm titer, hsv 2 reflex igm-ifa, and hsv2 igm titer we’re all positive. I have only had one new partner since my hsv 1 diagnosis and we have only had protected sex and he has no history of hsv 2 to my knowledge. I read on the igm test that it is not always able to distinguish herpes strains. I also read the Mayo Clinic and CDC do not recommend these test because of false positives for hsv 2 during hsv 1 reoccurrence. Just wondering if I should worry about hsv 2 based on these results?

I do not think you should pay any attention to the IgM test for HSV 2.  Good you did your research to find that these tests are not recommended.  They yield so many false positives!  Good that you and your partner used condoms so we don't have to worry about a new HSV 2 infection.  Be reassured.
