6/13: I had protected intercourse with a partner and oral sex he performed oral; no protection 6/14: he informs he feels ill & developing sores in the genital area. ER Dr. Says it’s HSV by observation and sends in fluid from lesions for test. I also went in for tests, I’ve never shown HSV symptoms in the past orally or genital. 6/16: I went to the lab and got blood drawn for IgG HSV 1&2 6/19: I received my results. HSV 1 was positive at 18.90 index 6/20: he is still pending results still unknown of HSV type. Did I cause this? He has no oral symptoms. He had unprotected sex with 2 dif. girls a week prior.

Have you ever had a cold sore on your lip?  And I can't tell from your post if your gave him oral sex?  You say you are HSV 1 positive, so you have that, but what about HSV 2?
The other women are more of a risk since the contacts were unprotected.
Let me know his results when you get them from him and your HSV 2 results.

(I’m not seeing my previous reply posted). Hi Terri, I’ve never had a cold sore and no history of genital sores. Since my index was on the higher end does that mean I have had HSV1 for a while?
He tested positive for HSV-1, negative for HSV2- test was a swab on a lesion in genital area.
I didn’t give him oral, and my HSV-2 igG was in the negative normal range. Should I give some more time and retest for that strain?
I’m also curious if it’s common to show symptoms in under 48 hours of exposure.. that’s if he got it from me

Yes, given the index value being quite high, this is NOT a new infection.
I would be EXTREMELY unlikely that you would transmit HSV 1 to him from intercourse.  HSV 1 genital infection is rarely shed and you have a higher index value so you don't have a new infection and.should shed less often.  The only way to know if he has new or old infection is for him to do an antibody test now and if negative, this may be a new infection, combined with a positive swab test.

Terri, thank you so much for the clarification.
The anxiety and stress of finding out this information has caused me to start feeling some burning and tingling on my skin(only on my arms at this time), but no bumps. I’ve taken a deep dive into this and may have caused symptoms to flare up by overthinking.
The information you provided has put me at ease and hopefully I start feeling like myself soon. Would you recommend me reaching out to my provider for antiviral meds even though this doesn’t seem like a first outbreak, given I’ve had this for a while? Thank you again!

This infection would not cause any symptoms on your arms, that's the wrong nerve group to be involved.
This is certainly something you should discuss with your provider, yes.  You may or may not need meds and you could do it either daily or with outbreaks only.  Some of othe decision would be based upon if you are having a sexual relationship with someone who is or is not already infected with HSV 1.
