[Question #10096] HSV or something else

I recently just broke with my girlfriend. We were monogamous and tested for STDs before having sex. About a month ago I shaved my pubic region and have noticed odd looking whitish bumps ever since..maybe even longer. They do not hurt , itch, or burn. If I pick them..they bleed and remained red/inflamed. Hydrocortisone seems to help.
They never looked liked water filled blisters. My pcp looked at the area approx 3 weeks ago thought nothing of it. Just wanted to get another experts advice. Much appreciated

By pubic region I’m referring to the bottom on my shaft if that makes a difference. Can I assume it’s not herpetic if I never felt any pain, burning, or discomfort?

Your symptoms don't really sound herpetic to me. You might look online and see if they look like something called molluscum contagiosum. Herpes would not really last this long, normally. And I would expect herpes lesions to break open, ulcerate and scab over. You aren't describing that. They could also be genital warts although from what you say, they don't really sound like that either. I'm surprised that your PCP didn't have any ideas for you about what they might be.

Thanks for your response Terri.. in all honestly they technically break open if a pick at them. But they have definitely been there for at least a month. And again they don’t hurt, itch, burn or anything. My Dr figured it’s in an area of high friction so possible Folliculitis or dermatitis.. but am I right to assume that if these were herpetic lesion I would be in some form of discomfort ?
Thank you

Yes. You are correct, and these are lasting way too long for HSV. Did you look at pictures of the things I suggested that it could be?

Yes. I did. It looks nothing like molliscum. I guess technically warts could be a possibility. I have another appointment with my MD to reassess. I appreciate your advice and insight..thank you

You're welcome. I sure hope you can figure out what they are. Folliculitis is also a possibility but there is nothing I can offer that is anywhere near as good as a visit with your provider, who can see you in person.
