The Dr told me to clean my daughters vagina with a q tip a couple times a week. I'm always careful not to touch it but today the q tip touched my hand then right away touched her vagina. No herpes on my hand. Should I be worried that she'll get herpes? I have it on my nose. Thank you!

Sorry I'm actually not concerned now about this - momentary panic - but thank you! Another question though - if I have an outbreak on my nose and a cut on my hand can I infect myself on the hand by washing my face? Thanks!

So first, I've never heard of a pediatrician asking the parents to clean the vagina of a daughter with a qtip - I'm wondering if you live somewhere other than the US or maybe just different practice than I've seen in the past.  Second, there is absolutely no way this would give your daughter herpes.

Once you have herpes in one location on your body it is extremely - and I mean extremely - unlikely that you would get the virus at a new location on your body.
