[Question #10150] testing question

Hello,

I had another potential risk after receiving anal fingering (receipt) with a possible presence of precum (male/male). I took a blood draw, 4th gen test at 61 days post exposure and was negative. Should I re-test at 90 days for conclusiveness?

Welcome back to the forum. Thanks for your continuing confidence in our services.

HIV is not transmitted by fingering; there has never been such a case (regardless of body fluids being used for lubrication) and you aren't the first! As for your blood test, the answer really can be found in one of your previous threads on the forum, where it was described that the HIV antigen-antibody (AgAb, formerly called "4th generation) blood tests are conclusive any time more than 45 days after the last possible exposure. Even if there had been a risk of HIV from fingering, your negative AgAb test result at 2 months proves you didn't catch HIV. With these tests, there is never a reason for another test; although some sources still advise a 90 day test, that's old news, left over from older HIV tests no longer in use.

So no worries at all about HIV! I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you, Dr. That concludes my questions.
