[Question #10165] Worried testicle pain

Hi

I have been told many times not to worry about this, but i do have a history for worrying for no reason. Last month on holiday I had a lap dance I was fully clothed, she was naked I did touch her on her body not her private parts. Next day I woke up worried about STDs. I do feel really guilty every time i speak to my wife.

Month later I have a dull ache in my left testicle. Some days it’s better, it’s not too painful doesn’t stop me from doing anything. The testicle looks fine there is no obvious swelling. The hospital did a blood test and urine test for infectionS (not for stds) the results came back all fine. They didn’t think I have a threat of std and If I did something would have turned up in the urine test.

This is taking over my life days, I wake up waiting for my testicle to hurt. Sometimes there is a slight pain in my leg. I keep feeling guilty. Please advise. I’m considering getting a check for a sense of relief.

Welcome to our Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment.  The interaction with the exotic dancer you describe did not put you at risk for any STI.  STIs are not transmitted by touching in the manner you describe and the characteristics of the testicular discomfort you describe are not suggestive of an STI.  Further, it appears that you have had a urine test for STIs which was negative and would have been positive if you had an STI.

Nothing you describe suggests and STI.  Rather, it appears that you are guilty about the interaction with the dancer you describe and that guilt is heightening your tendency to experience symptoms.  I would suggest either acknowledging your misstep to your wife or seeking counseling to address your guilt.  There is no reason to be concerned about STI and no need for further testing.  EWH

Thanks for your response, I do know my worry is stupid I just wanted to hear it from an expert. I was worried that what if I touched her body then touched my penis later when I went to the toilet. But from your response I’m guessing that’s a silly scenario.

The urine test was for general infections, but does that mean that it would have picked up STI as well? I am considering counselling to get over all of this.

Thanks again, I know how all these questions sound.

There are several types of urine tests.  These include:
A urinalysis which tests the urine for non-specific abnormalities such as the presence of glucose, protein, white blood cells, and red blood cells.  These tests provide a general evaluation of the kidneys, bladder and urinary tract. They are sometimes a useful 1rst step but are not specific for STIs.

Urine Cultures test the urine for bacteria which might cause a urinary tract infection (cystitis, or kidney infections).  They do NOT test for STIs

Urine tests for STIs. The tests test for the DNA or RNA of specific bacteria including gonorrhea, chlamydia and sometimes trichomonas.  The provide very accurate diagnostic of these infections

It sounds like you had a uranalysis or urine culture, neither of which tested for STIs.  Despite that, as I said above, nothing you describe suggests any risk of STI.  EWH

Thanks for your response doc

So the testicle pain and swelling you get from an std is that more of an obvious one? Also would it also have discharge as well? As my pain is dull and it kind of comes and goes. Sometimes not there at all. Which I am more convinced that it is to do with anxiety.

Can anxiety cause these sensations?

We provide up to three responses to each client's questions.  This is my 3rd and therefore my final response, following which the thread will be closed without further responses.

You have already been told that the interaction with the lap dancer you describe did not put you at risk for STI- that answer will not change with repeated questions.  Nothing about that interaction suggests a need for STI testing.

Typically testicular pain as part of an STI is accompanied by penile discharge.  The testicular pain of STIs does not come and go.  When persons are anxious and looking for symptoms there is a tendency to be more aware of otherwise normal sensations which would not be worrisome in other situations.  I suspect that this is the case for you.  Should your pain get worse or continue to trouble you, I would suggest seeing a urologist.  There really is not concern about STI

This completes this thread.  Take care.  EWH
