[Question #10185] Should I be worried?

Hello Dr(s). I am a heterosexual male and have only been with women. However recently I decided to experiment with another male. We had talked for months and assured me that he was clean as he always wears condoms and takes protective measures to stay clean. We had met up over the weekend and I performed unprotected oral for a few moments, there was no ejaculation. After I was on the receiving end of protected anal penetration, intercourse lasted less then 20 minutes as I was not enjoying it. The condom stayed on throughout and there was no ejaculation. I have read many different things online and its not very likely that I should be worried about transmission. However I have my doubts and I have been reassured that the sexual partner was clean and I have nothing to worry about. I don't fully trust the individual as to having met on an online dating app. Am I worrying for no reason?

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your questions.  I’ll be glad to comment.

By performing oral sex on him, there is a small risk for acquisition of oral Gonorrhea if he was infected.  Oral infections are typically asymptomatic so the only way to know for sure is to test.  There is no meaningful risk for chlamydial infection even if he was infected as for reasons not entirely understood, chlamydia does not infect the throat well.  The short duration of your exposure as well as the absence of symptoms in him makes it unlikely you were infected.  Most single exposures do not result in infection.

As for your receptive anal exposure, the use of a condom from start to finish without breakage makes this safe sex with virtually no risk for infection.

I hope this information is helpful.  EWH
