[Question #10219] Oral sex Risk

Hello Doctor,
am male who received unprotected oral sex from 2 different guys I don’t know for a round 5 sec and 30 sec respectively. I did not perform any acts. We also touched each other’s genitals for around 30 sec.

Did these encounters put me at any risk for HSV2 (I have HSV1) ?What is my risk of genital warts due to HPV or HPV in general from these encounters?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions.  Asa generalization that brevity of your exposures makes infection unlikely.  In addition,  I would have no concerns about viral STIs following the encounters you describe.  Acquisition of HSV-2 from receipt of oral sex is extraordinarily rare and as a sexually active person you likely already have HPV. Further, oral HPV is far less common than ano-genital infections and most exposures to infected persons do not lead to infection.  Your major risk from receipt of oral sex is for gonorrhea and even that risk is quite low.  Unless you develop symptoms within 3-7 days following your exposure, I would not worry.  EWH---

In terms of the rarity of HSV-2 acquisition from oral sex, are there any documented cases of such acquisition or is it just theoretical risk?

If I was taking ceftriaxone at the time that I could've been exposed to gonorrhea would it prevent infection?

Could I continue unprotected sex with my regular partner without concern or transmitting any STI from these incidents?

Thank you for your reply Dr. Hook.

I am not aware of any instances in which someone has acquired HSV-2 from receipt of oral sex.  It may have happened but as I already said, it's extraordinarily rare if it has happened.  Less likely than your risk f being struck by lightening.

If you had recently received ceftriaxone at the time of exposure, there would be no meaningful risk for gonorrhea.

If you were taking ceftriaxone at the time of your exposure, I would have no hesitation regarding unprotected sex with your regular partner.  EWH

Lastly, Assuming for the sake of this question that I did not have HPV.

Would these encounters put me at risk for HPV, both the receipt of oral and touching of each other’s genitals with our hands?

Can watts be transmitted from oral sex?

Thanks again doctor.

Final response.  Any hypothetical risk for oral HPV would be minimal.

I do not know what you are referring to when you ask of transmission of "watts"

You may mean warts.  If so, there is no meaningful risk of acquiring gentital warts from the exposures you describe.
