[Question #10262] HSV2 reinfection from genital fluid

Both my partner and I are HSV2 positive. I have known sites
on my genital with specific recurrent HSV2 outbreak. Is there a greater chance for the following scenario to cause a
new site to be infected on my genitals (more chances for outbreak later): my fingers come into contact only with the vaginal fluid of my partner (no skin-skin contact) before touching my genital (with my fingers, as I apply lubricant before putting the
condom)? More generally, Is genital fluid alone a highly probable transmission vector versus direct skin-to-skin contact?

If you both has HSV 2 as you state, there is no concern about transmission between you. Remember that when you have genital herpes, the virus can travel along several branches of that nerve group to get to the surface of the skin, so outbreaks can happen on the buttocks, anus, labia, thigh, lower belly. And it isn't because you moved the virus around with something you did but rather because the virus chose a slightly different nerve branch to get to the surface of the skin.
In terms of other partners, if that is your question, skin to skin contact is the most efficient method of transmission but vaginal fluid may also be a source of transmission.
Does this answer your question?
