[Question #10276] Know Exposure

Hello Dear Sirs, I had insertive oral sex with another male for about a few minutes and i cannot say whether it was deepthroat or not but he did have a few gag reflexes and  I did not ejaculate on his mouth. Further, we proceed to anal sex where I used a condom and he tried to sit on top of me but there was no full penetration as the encounter was so brief as I already ejaculated on the condoms. Im sure the condom did not break as i understand if it did i will be noticeable and a bit dramatic if it did break as i learned from this website. After i few days i asked him to perform a test and he turns out to be HIV postive. Considering if the fact that the condom did not break so i presume it only boils down to insertive oral sex. I hope to God i am right. 1)  If the exposure is only insertive oral sex do i need to go for a test 2) Im from India and is the IV Generation Tests in India conclusive at the 6th Week. Thank you for your service.

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your questions.  I’m pleased to hear that you used a condom for the anal portion of the encounter you described.  There are no proven cases of HIV in which someone has acquired HIV as the insertive recipient of oral sex.  As long as there was no other unprotected penetration, I would not be concerned. The fact that your condom appeared to be intact means that it was because when Camins fell, they break wide-open, leaving no doubt that they have failed.

In terms of testing, at six weeks your fourth generation test for HIV will be entirely conclusive.

I hope this information is helpful to you. EWH.

Yes Dr Hook there was no other penetration besides the one as described above. As a matter of fact I don't think I did penetrate him anally because while he was trying to adjust my protected penis to his anal with his hand I ejaculated. So it was just the tip that come in contact with his anus and like I said it was protected no direct skin to skin contact. It was just the insertive oral sex that was not protected. Thank you for your speedy reply  much appreciated...

Thanks for the clarification regarding your exposure.  Given your clarification, no change in my assessment.  If anything this makes the encounter still lower risk.  EWH ---

Dear Dr. Hook Greetings to you Sir. I tested negative yesterday which is 46 days after the encounter. The test was Rapid HIV 1/2 Screening Test Serum by Immunochromatography (Not exactly sure what that means). Is a Third or Fourth Generation Test. Considering the fact of the lower risk I encountered as per your assessment and also the fact that  the vast vast majority of people would have detectable HIV Antibodies by the 4 week (As most HIV specialist would claim)  and mine being test at 6 week + 4 days. Considering all these factors is another Test warranted Dr. Hook . Thank you Sir. Furthermore, I would like to thank you and Dr. Handsfield for your remarkable contributions towards the field of fighting HIV and other infections diseases. Thank you so much Dear Sirs

Thank you for the additional information. Given the close to no risk nature of your exposure and your test results at six weeks i would be confident that I did not have HIV and personally would not bother to seek additional testing. The test you had was an antibody on the test and while nearly everyone who would have a positive test would have one by now, technically results are not conclusive until at least eight weeks following the exposure.

I hope this information is helpful to you. As you know, we provide up to three responses to each clients question. This is my third response. Therefore this thread will be closed shortly without further replies. Take care. EWH.
