Dear Doctor
Hope you are well, I am a heterosexual man from the UK, I had unprotected sex with a Chinese female worker on June 24th and I may have a small cut on the head of my glans. Here are the test i have done
10days 3 hours after:HIV RNA PCR
23days :HIV Duo lab test
37days:HIV Duo lab test
57days:HIV Duo lab test,Syphilis, hepatitis B, hepatitis C
All the above tests were negative, but I started to notice swelling in my left underarm on day 21. And the mandibular lymph nodes can be felt, so I'm worried about my safety.

I can only open a new window due to the number of words (please forgive me, I'm too anxious).
Just today I went to the hospital to get a sample to test for HIV Rna Pcr and syphilis and chlamydia and gonorrhea, and now I am very worried about what the results will be(All the tests were done at better2know, as far as I know by the Nuffield Pathology Service)
Could you please give me some advice or what will be the result of my test based on your experience

kind regards

Welcome to our Forum.  Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment.  Let me start by saying that, even before your tests, the likelihood that you acquired any STI, including HIV is very low.  Most commercial sex workers do not have HIV of other STIs and, when the do, most single exposures do not lead to infection.   The small cut which was present on your glans does not change this.   Your testing provides further, absolutely conclusive evidence that you did not acquire HIV, syphilis or hepatitis B or C.  Although there was no need for additional testing, I am confident that the tests you took today will also be negative confirming that you did not acquire any infections.  There is no need for additional testing.

You can be confident as well that the swelling under your arm was not due to HIV or other infections that you tested for since if it were, the tests would have been positive.  Further, it is normal to be able to feel mandibular lymph nodes.

You are in the clear.  Your tests will be negative and there is no need for further testing related to the encounter you described.   EWH

Dear Doctor
I have always wanted to reply you after I get the result, but my result has been delayed due to some problems in the laboratory. So far, I have not got the pcr test result, which makes me more anxious
Is the 57-day Duo test really 100% conclusive? Is there any one situation that could cause me to have a false negative on my 57-day test? (I'm not on any immunosuppressive medication, and I haven't even had a cold for a while.) The only symptom is that my left underarm has been swollen for over a month
Looking forward to your reply

If your symptoms were due to HIV your test would be positive.  Symptoms are due to the presence of the virus and antibodies.

The 57 day DUO test is completely conclusive.  Be confident that you do not have HIV. EWH
