[Question #10413] Any further testing?

Hello Doctors,
I had a relapse of poor habits and decisions, and had a protected vaginal and oral encounter at a asian massage parlor AUG 17th. I took the tests for gono and chlamydia at the appropriate times, negative and not concerned. At 27 days after the exposure, my counselor referred me to the ER due to withdrawal symptoms and detox, and at the ER since my insurance covered it, they ordered a 4th gen [HIV 1+2 AB+HIV1P24 AG, CLA] and an HIV RNA test [HIV 1 RNA, PCR & LOG NUMBER PCR] via IV, both nonreactive and not detected.
My main question is, am I due for anymore testing for HIV with those tests at 27 days? I also had a negative 4th gen at 23 days. I want to focus on my detox and really hate what testing and waiting does to my mental health
And yes, the only way to 100% help myself is "if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"
Thank you

Welcome back to the Forum. Thanks for your questions, I'll be glad to comment. That your encounter was condom protected means that it was safe sex with virtually no risk for STIs, including HIV. Your gonorrhea and chlamydia tests prove that you did not get these infections and the combination of tests that you had for HIV likewise provide conclusive evidence that you did not acquire HIV from your misstep. You can have confidence in your test results. There is no need for further testing.
I wish you the best in your recovery process. EWH

Thanks for the well wishes doctor, I genuinely appreciate it.
I also did receive unprotected oral (less than a week) a few days after the first incident. I believe that would not affect the validity of the results for HIV, would you agree as well?
Also If i may ask, when is there valid concern? I've noticed most of the time you and DR Handsfield say if you were in the askers situation, you would not worry and not get tested at all in the first place.
I apologize if this is breaking the rules of follow-ups

No one has ever been proven to have acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex. Your receipt of oral sex in no way changes the validity of your results- you did not get HIV.
A person's level of concern your reflect their level of risk. Remember, HIV is relatively rare and when a person has sex with an untreated (effective treatment makes HIV non-transmissible) HIV-infected person the likelihood of transmission is always less than 1%. Persons who have unprotected sex with a person known to have HIV or who is in a risk group (i.e. for instance, men who have sex with other men have the highest rates of infection) should consider periodic testing for HIV.

Thank you doctor,
To reaffirm (sorry if i sound ignorant or repetitive) I am in the clear with those combined tests [RNA & 4th GEN] and from a medical and logical viewpoint, I can move on without any worry [had a interaction with a semi-regular partner and now my mind is racing I transmitted something].
Also, looking back, was this an event you would have even tested yourself or a patient for in regards of HIV or moved on without worry at all.
Thanks, and be safe.

Your summary is correct. If I'd been in your situation, I would not have even tested. Your testing simply adds scientific proof that you were not infected in what I consider to have been a no risk encounter. I certainly see no reason for worry going forward. EWH---
