[Question #10472] HIV Risk

Good Afternoon, I would like to ask in Regards of a possible HIV Risk Infection. In 2021 I visited a strip club and ended having sex with a comercial sex worker, we used condom and she let me know that she visits a clinic and have testing every month, in the middle of the encounter, the condom slip off a bit, but it was still covering the foreskin and head of the penis. And a bit more. I got married this year and had sex with my wife regularly, we always take a shower post sex using a mint smell body wash. Few weeks later I developed Balanitis which it's clear up already and I assumed this was due to irritation caused by the body wash, lately I have been dropping some weight but I assume that it's because I'm exercising on daily basis walking 2.5 miles a day and eating less Junk food, a coworker was messing up with me about my weight lost and made me think if this and the balanitis could be a result of late HIV Infection? Would you recommend testing? Researching with physicians HIV is not easy to acquired , and that this was a very very low risk with that commercial worker. Thanks I'm advance for your assessment on this.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question and for your confidence in our services.
You are right that the sexual exposure described was extremely low risk for HIV. In addition, your coworker is entirely wrong. Weight loss alone does not suggest HIV, especially when someone otherwise feels and looks well and there is another obvious explanation (working out, conditioning, etc). Balanitis also does not suggest HIV. However, the only way to know with complete certainty is to have an HIV blood test. You definitely can expect a negative result -- so don't be worried as you wait to be tested and for the result.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
