[Question #10489] M2M risk

Couple questions regarding recent M2M exposure.  2 days ago met up with older bi male.  He indicated he has never had anal sex, neither have I which Im assuming lowers his risk.  We spent approx 1 hour mutual stroking, penis rubbing, on several occasions with his penis touching my anus and rubbing against it. There was no oral.  There was no overt penetration.

I am married and not too concerned about testing as I feel it was a low risk for most and zero for some.  Just to put my mind at ease what signs/symptoms should I be looking for and in what time frame would those appear so I can self monitor.

Thanks so much in advance.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your confidence in it.

Your assumptions/beliefs are entirely correct. There have been no studies (at least none I know about) that specifically analyzed STI/HIV risk in MSM according to whether or not they ever had anal sex. However, almost certainly those who never had anal sex are at substantially lower risk of having a current, transmissible STI than those with anal sex. In fact, probably HIV is virtually absent in such men, since anal sex is the only sexual practice between men likely to transmit the virus. In addition, you are right in believing that this exposure "was a low risk for most [STIs] and zero for some. In fact, I would put it at very nearly zero risk for any and all. Finally, I also agree you should "not [be] too concerned about testing." I see no need for testing of any kind. If somehow I were in your situation, I would not be tested and would continue unprotected sex with my wife without worry.

I really can't list any symptoms for you to be concerned about. Had there been anal or oral penetration by either of you, we could speak of urethral or anal discharge; painful urination; genital, anal or oral sores; symptoms of acute HIV infection (fever, sore throat, skin rash, enlarged lymph nodes); and syphilis (painless sore, with later skin rash and other symptoms). Obviously if something shows up you'll need to be professionally evaluated, but it is extremely unlikely.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
