[Question #10522] Massage Risk

I have continued reading searching for answers. My previous questions 10455 was about male masseuse that gave me my massage where he  licked my butt and anus never penetrated and then licked my thigh and scrotum no mouth to penis. I have asked him his status and he reply’s I will get nothing from him. He has to be tested regularly for life insurance policy. (not sure). I see in question 7548 where the response to #3 about Hsv2 states almost all sources say hsv2 from oral to genital is almost unheard of have you ever seen this take place in your 40 year’s experience?  Ms. Warren replies Never and I don’t think Drs. Hook and Handsfield has either. Is my risk higher or lower coming from a male  (licking butt/anus  and scrotum) than actual oral mouth to penis? I’m very worried about the hsv2 infection. I have read about the hiv and pretty much have realized that can’t happen. It has been 4 weeks this Friday the 20th. Could I get tested next week and be conclusive or should I wait till the 6th week to take all test,  then final hsv2 test at 12th week?  What test do I ask for on the anal swab?  I will get all blood test also. Do I need to have urine tested. I took a uti test at home to looking for leukocytes and it was negative. Sorry for the return but I feel everything in my genital and rectum right now. It’s extremely rough time.

This is Terri Warren as I answer the herpes questions here.  If you are asking if the risk of getting HSV 2 from someone licking your anus is higher or lower than someone giving you oral sex, I would say that we no hard data, but I would guess that the risk if higher from mouth to penis but not much higher.  There is no risk of someone licking your thigh.  The skin of the thigh is too thick for virus to penetrate.

If you have anal symptoms, you want to ask for a PCR or NAAT swab vs. the old style culture.  You do not need a urine test, no, and I would recommend against it for HSV.

In terms of testing, you can do that but remember that the IgG test for HSV 2 has many many false positives, so if you are positive at 6 weeks, you will need a western blot for confirmation.  Or you could just start with the blot but no until 12 weeks out from the encounter for greatest accuracy.

I guess what I was referring to was you have never seen or heard of anyone getting hsv2 from oral to genital is what I read in the question referenced. I appreciate all you and the Drs. do for this site.

That is correct, I have never seen anyone acquire HSV 2 genital infection from receiving oral sex.

I thank you for this site and the Westover site. The situation I have wrote about the male licking my butt/anus, thighs, and scrotum is my concern. The licks at each  site were brief not very many and not sloppy wet with saliva like you would get with a blow job I even  squintched up my cheeks when he started licking my butt. I have read on each site about hsv2 from receiving oral and it just doesn’t seem to happen. You say that you have not seen it and the Drs. as well. I have ask this gentleman 3 different times about his status and he keeps saying you’re not gonna get nothing from me. It has been 5 weeks since this exposure and plan on doing the sti panel and hiv test next week to be in the 6 week range. I have taken numerous herpes test before and all have come back positive on hsv1 (fever blisters) and negative for hsv2. My last herpes test was the western blot few years ago and it was same way. I have not done anything since then that would require a test until this exposure. I would take another IGG test but I’am afraid of getting the low positive like so many have lately or has this been going on for awhile? Dr H. says know risk no worries in my previous thread what’s your thoughts on my risk?   I feel the anxiety of the itching and burning and when I look nothing is there. I get the butt bumps from time to time they hurt they sting but go away. Would you refrain from sex with wife in this situation? Thanks again

One more thing yesterday I felt pretty good. Today my tailbone has hurt all day and spot in between my cheeks has felt irritated and like a burning sensation. Just all weird kinda of sensations and the nausea. This is on my mind from time I wake up to the time I go to bed.

If you already test positive for HSV 1, then this is certainly not a worry.  If your HSV 1 is oral, it is extremely unlikely that you would now acquire this in a new location on your body.Time to put this worry behind you now.

yes, sorry, HSV 2 is also not a worry at all, as neither I nor anyone else that I know in the area of herpes expertise, has seen transmission of HSV 2 from the mouth of one person to the genitals or genital area of someone else.  Dr Handsfield and I are in complete agreement about this.
