[Question #10553] where will i have outbreaks

Hi,
After having cronic urticaria i decided to do a blood test for Herpes (hiv,syphilis are negativ).
My risk was me giving oral to 5 different women.

HSV 2 IGG + IGM negativ
but
HSV 1 IGG 1,23 Index
HSV 1 IGM negativ

I never had a cold sore around the mouth or lips.
1) So if we suppose it is located in the throat/pharyngal region can i become also liessions arround the mouth ?
2) For how long are IGM positiv in the blood ?
3) Any chance this is a false positiv ?
4) Do i need to take medications or do an other test if i have no symptoms ?
5) Could hsv medication resolve my urticaria problem?

IgM testing is NOT recommended for HSV due to a high rate of false positives.

The low positive HSV 1 could be real or a false positive. If you really want to know about the HSV 1 accuracy, you could do a herpes western blot.

Probably the risk from giving oral sex to someone is actually HSV2 and it rarely likes the mouth so I think you're probably good in that regard.

Hi,
Thank you for you answer.

My test before this one was 0.82. Colud this be a false negativ (now it is 1,23).

Can i pass HSV to my baby if i dont have symptoms and i dont kiss on the mouth ?
Kann i kiss on the cheeks and share drinks ?

What do you think between a relation from urticaria and HSV infektion ?

I have stomach problems and some diarrhea the last 2 months. Can this be from the HSV virus?

Yes, this is very likely a false positive.

You cannot share this with your child if you don't kiss him on the lips.

Urticaria is just an itchy rash. Herpes is completely different.

2) I know uriticaria is not like herpes but i have found some documented cases that urticaria outbreak was related to an herpes infection. Also others users for example on your forum are asking for the same because they have this problem.
So what is your opinion about this ?

That is a good question but a difficult one to answer because the IgG test for HSV 1 misses 30% of infection compared to the gold standard western blot. If we were talking about HSV 2, I would say it is very likely a false positive now, but we aren't talking about HSV 2. I guess I just can't answer this for you because the IgG test for HSV 1 is so poor. The only thing I can say is that if this is a big worry for you, you should consider the herpes western blot antibody test done only at the University of Washington

I guess it would depend upon the nature of the urticarial rash that is presenting. If the presentation is hive-like itchy bumps in the genital area specifically, the main difference between that and an HSV lesion would be that HSV would present first as a water blister looking lesion that would then ulcerate and scab where hives does not present as a water blister, not do they normally ulcerate. I hope that distinction is helpful for you.
