[Question #10570] Hpv

Hello, some time ago I've asked some questions about hpv and I'm really thankful for the responds. However, I have a completely new concern. I had my last surgery 5 months ago and my doctor stated that there are no more hpv lesions. Anyway, I did the pcr test and it still came out positive for hpv 6/11 so I decided that I will have a passive sex only after the test comes out negative. Recently I've met someone and decided that being the top or having oral sex is safe cause I have never had any hpv changes on my penis. Am I right?
The other question - my doctor recommended a laryngologist visit after treating my hpv problems. Is it necessery? I haven't heard about such recommendations for other people struggling with GW.

Welcome back to the Forum although I'm sorry you felt the need.  While you state that this is a different concern, it really is not.  You continue to be inappropriately concerned about having had a genital wart.  That you had your visible wart removed does not assure you that there is no persistent HPV infection which do you not see.  As we have told you in the past, about 60% of HPV 6/11 infections cause visible warts and those visible warts comprise about 90% of all warts that are visible.  You need to go on and get vaccinated for HPV as Dr. Handsfield and I have both suggested and stop worrying about HPV.  It has only been 5 months since your last questions and as you have been told, it can take longer than that for these innocuous infections to resolve.

If you continue to have unprotected sex without vaccination you will almost certainly get other HPV infections.

Being a top does not necessarily guarantee that you will not get infected.

Oral HPV infections are less common than anogenital site- the oral cavity seems to become infected less often.

I see no reason to see an ENT doctor but I also see no reason for your continuing concerns.  EWH

Thank you for the response, but I was rather asking if me being a top will protect my partner from getting infected from me (because of the fact that the warts weren't on my genitals but in the anal area)?

I understand that.  You've missed the point of this and our prior responses.  That your visible warts were anal in location does not mean that you do not have penile HPV infection which is not visible. Further, presuming that your "bottom" partner has had other partners, topping him puts you at further risk for HPV acquisition.

My sense is the fact that you had visible anal warts has generated unwarranted concerns about HPV and is leading you to "what if" questions that miss the FACT that most sexually active persons have HPV, typically caused by more than one HPV type.  These are typically inconsequential as long as persons get regular sexual health checks.  EWH

Ok, thank you. So you think that I shouldn't abstain from having sex with my partner?

As you know, we provide them to three responses to each client’s question. This will be my final response.

We do not recommend sexual abstinence in the presence of HPV infection. As you have been told on several occasions, HPV infections are widespread in unvaccinated person‘s, most often resolve without therapy, and the rare problems associated with these infections are readily dealt with when persons pursue regular sexual health check ups. The best way to avoid any problems whatsoever with HPV infections is to get vaccinated. My senses you are worrying entirely too much about it your general warts and possible HPV infections.

This completes this thread. EWH.
