[Question #10597] Oral sex

Hello Dr. Thank you for the service you provide, I have looked through the forum but haven’t really found an answer to my specific concern.
I am a Female who regrettably made an idiot decision to perform unprotected oral sex on a male friend, while being in a relationship. Male friend is 40s and married. I had a freak out moment the next day and had some 875/125 augmentin at home so took 2 doses a day for 3 days. Fearing that I still might have acquired a chlamydia infection from the oral sex I took 1g of azithro but puked later. 2 weeks after the encounter I performed oral sex on my partner. I feel terrible for this choice and have been tested countless times via urine to make sure that I have not passed anything on to him. The last time I tested was end of august after having sex around 14 times after the terrible choice. Can I believe that I have not passed an infection to him via oral sex if I have tested negative genitally for the past 5 months?
Would the augmentin prevent an infection from establishing if taken so soon after the incident?

Is there any conceivable chance that I did acquire a chlamydia infection … passed it on to him…. He being asymptomatic for 4 months and not passing it on with 14 times of sex

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll do my best to address you lingering concerns over the possibility of having acquired oral gonorrhea or chlamydia following the low risk encounter you describe. There are a number of reasons you can now be confident that you did not acquire an infection. These include:
---
1. Epidemiologically, your risk was low. You partner's age and marital status put him into a category in which STIs are uncommon. In addition, in the statistically unlikely circumstance that he had gonorrhea or chlamydial, most single oral exposures to infected partners do not result in infection.
2. You took Augmentin the day after your exposure. In the unlikely event that you were exposed, the antibiotics you took would have reduced the likelihood of infection by both gonorrhea and chlamydia substantially.
Putting these facts together, the likelihood that you have an STI from the low risk encounter you describe is virtually zero.
Unfortunately, in terms of "proof" that you were not infected, if you only tested your urine, this does not rule out the vanishingly unlikely possibility of an oral infection however, the likelihood you were infected is virtually zero.
I hope that some of this information is helpful to you. There is little or no chance that you were infected as a result of the encounter you describe. Testing orally will provide even more proof that you were not infected but I fear this will not help resolve the guilt which appears to haunt you. My suggestion regarding this is to seek confidential counseling to address this.
I hope this perspective is helpful to you. If any part of my comments is unclear or there are additional questions, please don't hesitate to use your up to two follow-ups for clarification. EWH

I truly appreciate your response. My theory for urine testing was if my partner and I have had sex 14 times which included oral and vaginal sex, I would transmitted to him. Would I be correct in this thinking?

Your thinking is correct and provides further support that you were not infected by your misstep. EWH---

Thank you for the advice. I will work on moving on from this misstep. This maybe repeated question, but could there be a chance I infected him and he has yet to infect me after 14 encounters?

In science, one can never say never, but statistically the chance that this has occurred is virtually zero. I urge you to do your best to move on and put your fears about this misstep behind you.
As you know, we provide up to three responses to each clients question. This is my third response. Therefore this thread will be close shortly without further responses. EWH.

Hi Dr. Hook, just wanted to let you know, I think you forgot to close the thread after your response. If you do not mind answering, in the very unrealistic chance I acquired an oral infection despite the augmentin, would the 1 g of azithromycin at day 6 further reduce the chances of possible my passing it in to my partner? I understand if you don’t want to answer and close the thread. Thank you for the service you provide

Thanks for the follow-up. While I remain confident that you did not get chlamydia from the exposure you described, Azithromycin is active against chlamydia and, until recently was the recommended therapy for chlamydia infection. If you had chlamydia (again, most unlikely) taking azithromycin would have a good chance of curing it.
Closing thread now. EWH
