[Question #10634] HIV and Hepatitis C Risk

Over the weekend I received unprotected oral sex from two female sex workers.  If they had given a client prior to me oral sex  which resulted in them having sperm or precum in their mouth (30 min to 1 hr before me), does this present a risk of me getting HIV or Hepatitis C.  I should note that I believe one of them is an IV drug user.  I do not know their STI status.  Thank you for your help.

Welcome to our Forum.  thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to provide some information.

Let me start with informing you that there are no proven cases of HIV acquired from receipt of oral sex.  Similarly, there are no scientific data to suggest that hepatitis C is acquired from receipt of STIs.

By and large, receipt of oral sex is among the lowest risk sexual exposures for STI acquisition.  When persons get STIs from oral sex, the STIs the get are typically gonorrhea which is symptomatic in about 90% of cases.

My advice- please don't worry about HIV or hepatitis C.  If you remain asymptomatic, I would not worry about other STIs either.  EWH
