[Question #10652] Question

Hello again doctors,

I'm sure you can read my last post. I have a different question about my hiv antibody test.

The doctor who took my blood for my HIV antibody-only test was still in training. She was very nice and everything but the blood draw itself was quite difficult. I was wondering, if blood is exposed to air, and that blood is tested for HIV with a HIV antibody-only test, would the HIV antibody-only test still be able to detect HIV antibodies, if the person has HIV? Or do the HIV antibodies 'die' or become undetectable when they come in contact with air?

Hope my question is clear, thanks in advance!

Welcome back to the forum.

There is nothing to worry about. How blood is drawn, including exposure to air, has no effect on the accuracy of any HIV test, including the standalone antibody tests. Antibodies do not "die" and are not in any way damaged by air exposure or by any other factor that could be related to blood drawing. Your test result is accurate and reliable.

Let me know if this doesn't adequately deal with your concerns. Thanks for your confidence in our services.
