An article in "The Helper" says that Famciclovir is effective in preventing viral sheading in a new research study.  How does Famciclovir compare to Valacylovir or other medications that help to prevent viral sheading?

This is not new news - I am actually an author on a trial of Famvir and viral shedding with Dr. Leone.  Is this a new Helper?  I would say that both drugs reduce shedding by about 70=75% except Famvir doesn't work as well in African Americans - we don't know why.

Thank you Terri, can you recommend the proper dosage of Famciclovir?

The proper dose for suppression is 250 mg twice per day.  But if you are going to take a medication twice per day, I would recommend acyclovir at a fraction of the cost.
