[Question #10665] Herpes blood test accuracy

Good morning ,
After a risky relationship (given oral sex without and rubbing of the genitals without protection) with another man, I was able to talk with the doctors on this site who helped me overcome this difficult milestone. I carried out several tests and all came back negative after 12 weeks of the risk report (HIV, Hepatitis B etc.) as the doctors had predicted. So I was able to put all of that behind me.
My last concern relates to genital herpes: I have carried out 3 blood tests for IGG detection (at 4, 6 and 12 weeks) all negative for herpes types 1 and 2. I have no symptoms. I live in France and therefore cannot benefit from the Western Blot test (not practiced here). I sometimes read that 12 weeks is enough for the IGG blood test and sometimes I read 16 weeks.
Given the nature of the risk, the fact that I had no symptoms and the results of my three tests, do you think a final test at 16 weeks is necessary? What are the risks of having had a false negative test in these conditions at 12 weeks? Can I resume a normal sex life?

Thank you so much

You need 12 weeks from the encounter to do the western blot, but 12 weeks is a great plenty for the IgG as well = probably less is fine, but at 12 weeks, it is as good as it is going to get!  I definitely don't think you need another test at 16 weeks.  The experiences that you describe sound to be very low risk for the acquisition of HSV 2 anyway.

Thank you for that answer. Since then I have noticed the appearance of a small pimple under my lips for three days which has not improved. It's not painful but is located just under my lower lip. It is red and does not appear to be filled with fluid.
Are herpes symptoms always painful?
Would it be possible to have had no symptoms the first 3 months after the risky contact and to have an appearance like this after 13 weeks?
Thank you

Herpes symptoms are not always painful but I would say most of the time, they are at least uncomfortable.
It would be very unlikely that first symptoms would appear 13 weeks later but if you have any concerns about this lip lesion, just see a clinician and ask for a swab test for HSV to be done.
