[Question #10675] kissing

back on july i saw a guy and we kissed for 5 minutes didn’t see or taste any blood. but 3 hours prior i flossed my teeth and injured my lower gum. they were superficial cuts that stopped bleeding after few seconds. 20 days later had flu like symptoms but they were very mild and intermittent. 90 days after exposure i did hiv lab blood test 4th generation combo ECLIA. it was none-reactive. i don’t know the guys hiv status. 1- was it a real exposure? 2- i have taken iron iv infusion the day prior would it affect the results? also i was taking daily multivitamins that didnt have biotin in them.

to clear things up the daily multivitamin was without biotin and i took them daily prior to testing.
also the following months after the kiss i started to have on going infections like uti, sinusitis, blepharitis, gum inflammation. i started to develop allergies to things i wasn’t allergic to.
im little worried and have daily panic attacks about my health, should i do further testings to confirm my results ?

Kissing rarely if ever transmits HIV. You say nothing about yourself or your partner -- although it seems both you and your partner are male, right? To your numbered questions:
1) Almost certainly the kissing event was not a real exposure, i.e. little or no risk of HIV. But the risk at the time of the event doesn't matter anyway, because...
2) Your negative antigen-antibody (AgAb, 4th generation) blood test proves you were not infected. Contrary to misinformation online and elsewhere, there are no medical conditions or medications that have any effect on the reliability or timing of the HIV blood tests. And that includes biotin, at least in the usual doses.
Your various symptoms also make no difference. It is not possible to have HIV symptoms with a negative blood test. Therefore your test result proves HIV isn't the cause. See a doctor if you remain concerned about them. As for your panic attacks, you might consider professional counseling. No further HIV testing will help.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

thank you so much for making me feel better, i really needed your professional opinion.
regarding myself im a female and i kissed a male. i asked him prior to the kissing and even after that about his previous relationships and he told me he only kissed a girl before me, he also didn’t do any drugs. i don’t know if he is lying but he didn’t seem to be the kind to do anything risky.
so what you are saying there is no need to do the test again and i can move on with my life?

Thanks for clarifying. This makes any chance of HIV a thousand times lower, assuming your kissing partner doesn't have frequent male sex partners. In the US and most industrialized countries, the likelihood of HIV is near zero even among the most sexually active straight males. You don't need any more HIV tests to be 100% confident you don't have it.---

im sorry for asking again, but before you close this thread and for my peace of mind, iron iv infusion if taken one day prior wont affect the results of the test?
thank you

To repeat what I said above, "there are no medical conditions or medications that have any effect on the reliability or timing of the HIV blood tests". I haven't changed my mind! IV iron makes no difference.
Thanks for the thanks; I'm glad to have helped. That completes the two follow-up exchanges included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful and that you will be able to go forward with complete confidence you were at little if any risk and do not have HIV.
