[Question #10701] follow up Question #10675

im sorry for coming back, in my previous question i discussed with Dr. Hunter about my exposure which was kissing with small cuts from flossing. i also discussed with him about the medications that i was taking prior to testing and if they can cause a false negative. He assured me that no medication can affect the tests accuracy. however, while searching on this website i saw Dr. hook answer to someone about how corticosteroid might slightly affect the antibody formation.
i made this follow up because i remembered that prior to testing i used a nasal spray called “avamys 27.5 micrograms” and it contains corticosteroids. i used the spray twice a day.
i took the test hiv ag/ab 4th generation 90 days after the event, it was non-reactive and the nasal spray i started taking it 12 days prior to testing. would it affect the test results?

As I advised in your previous thread (twice!), "there are no medical conditions or medications that have any effect on the reliability or timing of the HIV blood tests." You have misunderstood whatever you found that Dr. Hook said. Any effect of corticosteroids on antibody development is not enough to make a test falsely negative, and certainly not with the amount of drug by nasal spray. Anyway, you had AgAb testing (4th generation), which tests for the virus itself (the Ag component of the test) and not only antibody. Your 90 day test result is absolutely conclusive. I would advise you to stop searching the forum or other web resources.
