[Question #10713] HSV

Hi Docs,
After a lot of misdiagnosis and stuff finally I’ve been diagnosed by HSV2. I had an OB 5 months back so what needs to be expected is normal.
This time however it’s very painful and itchy and I don’t know if it’s because I wasted a week leaving it untreated.
Now I’m on 1.5g valtrex for 5 days. I’m anxious as to why my 2nd OB feels worse?
I’ve a bit of hypochondria and my post history suggests that I had a “no risk” exposure to possible HIV before for which I’ve been tested and everything. My mind tells me that it’s worse this time cus of my lowered immunity and such but I’m sure that’s just my mind.
I’d love some guidance and information on HSV 2 and whether the sores get worse a bit first on valtrex and then heal up.
Thank you

It might feel worse because you didn't treat it right away. it would be good if you could develop a recognition of symptoms that come before an outbreak - it's called prodrome - and start treating then, rather than letting it develop into an actual sore. The sooner you treat it, the shorter the outcome will be.
How exactly were you diagnosed with HSV 2.
When you take meds to treat an outbreak, spreading them out throughout the day rather than taking all at once will be more effective as well
For more information on HSV 2, I would suggest you read the Herpes Handbook which is free and on our website, westoverheights.com.

Hey Terri just a follow up
It’s been 5 days and I’m seeing great improvement but the reddishness has not gone away.
Scared as to why I haven’t recovered yet as my doc had given me a dosage for 5 days and told me that it’d be enough.
Do let me know if this is common.

To add another key information.
My IGg and IGm blood tests came back negative with a value of 0.4 and 0.1 respectively for both HSV1 and HSV 2.
So I’m super confused as to why my doc visually said I’ve Herpes. For context my possible exposure has to be at least a year back. And I had my blood test done this time during a time of peak symptoms.

I think there is a problem here with the visual diagnosis. So a doctor told you based on a visual presentation alone that you had HSV 2 but your IgG tests were negative. I would suggest that you believe the IgG test results. There is no evidence that you have HSV. If you did, I believe that your IgG results would be positive by now. If you want more reassurance, you could do the herpes western blot which is considered the gold standard of herpes antibody tests. I am closing this thread now.
