[Question #10726] IgG Numerical Meanings of a Herpes Test Result
20 months ago
|
What does a higher numerical IgG test mean vs a lower numerical number? As an example if a test result reflects: a 59.40 H for HSV1 versus 47.00 H for HSV1 or 5 H for HSV2 versus 13.40 H for HSV2 what does an increased value mean? I've yet to find a health professional that can explain why the numerical numbers increase or decrease and what it means for me. Thank you.

The numeric values are called index values - by themselves, they really don't mean much, EXCEPT a 59.4 for HSV 1 would suggest that this is a longer standing infection vs. say 1.5, which could be a false positive or represent a new infection. A 5 for HSV 2 could be a false positive, but less likely. A 13.4 very likely represents a true positive but I have seen false positives for HSV 2 as high as 17
