[Question #10756] Am I negative or more tests?

On November 30th I had a male 2 male massage. He says he is negative. The only risky thing I know is that I think he inserted his finger in my Anus for a little while although I don’t know if he actually inserted it or not.
. Also he pinched my back or I felt a tiny stab of something in my back in which he replied “all good, don’t worry”. There was nothing else done. No oral, no sex.
About 10 days later, I came down with the chills, muscle aches, I think a slight fever, a cough and a cold, which lasted four or five days. I still have the cough. I got tested 18 days after the encounter on December 18, which was eight days after my symptoms occurred. The test was a fourth generation LabCorp duo. It came out negative. I was supposed to have been an RNA at the same time, but they messed up the specimen.
1) if my symptoms were due to HIV with the fourth generation at 18 days(symptoms started at 10 days) would test have been positive?
2) how reliable is my test at 18 days?
3) if I did a repeat test at four weeks along with the RNA, would that be conclusive or do I need to wait until 6 weeks.
Thank you

Welcome back to the Forum. I happened to be on the Forum when your question arrived so you are getting a response far, far more quickly than is typical. Any follow-ups may take substantially long for you to receive a reply.
The exposure you describe was no risk. Insertion of a finger into your rectum is a form of masturbation and HIV (as well as other STIs) is not transmitted through participation in masturbation, even when a partner's genital or other secretions get on you. Further, as explained below (as well as in prior responses to your questions over the last two years), your tests prove that you do not have HIV:
1. Symptoms are due to the presence of the HIV virus and/or antibodies to the virus. As a result, when symptoms are present, tests for HIV are virtually always positive. Your negative test at day 18 proves that your symptoms are not due to HIV.
2. See above. While 4th generation, combination HIV antigen tests are not 100% conclusive for asymptomatic acquistion of HIV until 6 weeks following an exposure, if your symptoms were due to HIV, your tests would be positive. Your negative test proves that your symptoms are not due to HIV.
3. The combination of a negative HIV PCR and a negative 4th generation test at 4 weeks would be conclusive for ruling out HIV.
I hope that this information is helpful. We have discussed these issues with you in the past. I hope that those discussion, was well as the information I have provided, will allow you to put any concerns you have aside and move forward. EWH

Thank you. So a few follow ups
1)the idea that the test are always positive if you’re having symptoms. Is that based on opinion or is that scientific data?
2) Can you believe the test rule out HIV symptoms if you are having a negative test while you’re having symptoms?
3) if you’re having symptoms at 10 days and then tested at 18 days does that conclusively rule out that the symptoms were due to HIV?
4) based on the risk is there more reason to test?

These follow-up questions reflect your anxiety. Please don’t give into it.
1. if this was opinion, I would’ve said so. Let me state once more unequivocally that when symptoms are present, because they are due to the presence of the virus and/or antibodies, fourth generation combination HIV antigen/antibody tests are ALWAYS positive.
2. Once again, it is not a belief, but a fact that when symptoms are present, they are due to the presence of HIV virus (antigens) or antibodies, and therefore tests are always positive when HIV is causing symptoms
3. This is yet another repetitive way of asking the same question. The answer is not going to change.
4. If your only exposure was insertion of your partner’s finger into your anus, there was never any reason to test to start with.

Hello and hope your Christmas was well. I am still concerned about my status due to recent issues. I went and had a fourth generation via LabCorp as well as a HIV 1/2 RNA qualitative test. This was 26 1/2 days after my recent exposure. I got results back today and both were negative.
1)are these results absolutely conclusive in combination with each other?
2)do I need to repeat either of these tests at six weeks?
3)if there was ANY SORT of hiv, would at least antibody, antigen, or pcr be positive?
4)even with prior year exposures, ANY SORT of hiv subtype would be discovered/show up on some test if truly infected?
5)some say 90 days to be conclusive? Should I?
6)No matter what symptoms I get from this point forward, can I totally disregard hiv with total conclusiveness?
I plan on being this my last post.
Thank you and have a Happy New Year.

Final responses.
---
1)are these results absolutely conclusive in combination with each other?
Yes
2)do I need to repeat either of these tests at six weeks?
Absolutely not from a scientific perspective.
3)if there was ANY SORT of hiv, would at least antibody, antigen, or pcr be positive?
No.
4)even with prior year exposures, ANY SORT of hiv subtype would be discovered/show up on some test if truly infected?
Repetitive- the answer will not change no matter how many times you repeat the question.
5)some say 90 days to be conclusive? Should I?
Sigh- what part of conclusive is unclear. You do not have HIV!!!
6)No matter what symptoms I get from this point forward, can I totally disregard hiv with total conclusiveness?
Yes
This completes this thread. This thread will be closed shortly without further responses I hope you will now be able to move forward. EWH

You said “no” on question 3? Please clarify your no response. I thought your answer would’ve been yes.
