[Question #10770] Oral HSV2

Hello doctors.  I'm pretty distressed about a bad decision I made three days ago and I would like to get your feedback.  Three days ago I gave unprotected oral sex to an escort.  Yesterday I started noticing a slight sore throat.  Today, the slight sore throat is still there as well as a spot on the side of my tongue below the taste buds which feels inflamed and sore (kind of like what happens if you eat something too citrusy).  Am I worrying too much about this or is it something to be concerned about such as HSV2?  It does not look like a blister, instead, it looks like a small raised area with a slight white tone to it.  I'm hoping that I am just worrying too much and my OCD is getting the best of me but I would really appreciate your feedback.

The likelihood of you acquiring HSV from giving oral sex to someone is quite low.  It is not zero, but unusual to happen.  You say a "slight sore throat".  I would imagine if you acquired HSV in your throat, it would be more than slight.  However, if this continues to concern you, I recommend seeing a clinician and having someone do a swab test to reassure you or clarify the situation.  I have seen people acquire HSV in the throat from giving oral sex but in my personal experience, it is rare.   Would you feel comfortable going to see a clinician to evaluate your throat and tongue concerns and being honest about your experience?
