[Question #10810] HIV

I attended a domination session yesterday where a lady spat on my face and I also sucked her strap-on dildo. That's all. I don't recall noticing anything unusual on the dildo, such as fluids, but I can't be completely sure if the dildo was clean. What is my risk of contracting HIV? Can I move on without worrying?

Welcome and thanks for your question, and your confidence in our services.
You don't provide information about your partner, the setting, etc. But assuming you're in the US, Western Europe, or any industrialized country, it probably is unlikely she has HIV. Even among the most active female sex workers, in those settings on average well under one percent have HIV. The chance likely would be higher if you're, say, in south Asia or subtropical Africa, or if your partner were male (or M-to-F trans).
But even if she is HIV infected, I see nothing in your description that indicates significant risk of transmission. HIV is rarely if ever transmitted by saliva (which inactivates the virus, one reason kissing and oral sex are nearly zero risk); and assuming the dildo had not been in her rectum or vagina immeditely before in intered your rectum or mouth, that aspect also was risk free. I would not advise testing for HIV or any other STIs.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Thank you.
I am in the UK. I don’t believe the dildo was inside her body, but just in case, I would like to know: If the dildo had been in her rectum or vagina immediately before I sucked it, would this change your assessment? I believe that even in this case, the risk would be no higher than giving oral sex to a male partner, which is a very low-risk event. Is this true?

If the dildo only had contact with your mouth and not rectum, the risk is near zero even if it had been in her vagina and she has HIV. Your own analysis is exactly right: with oral sex on a male to completion -- i.e. ejaculation in the mouth by an infected male -- the risk of catching HIV is roughly one in 10,000. For this event, the risk would remain zero. I really wouldn't worry about it at all.---

Thank you.
I have one more question. I have a fetish. Can HIV be transmitted through panties, underwear, or clothes? If I lick and masturbate with panties that have fresh genital secretions (or blood that I might not notice) from others, should I be concerned about HIV transmission?

For clarity and to avoid any confusion, I would like to add the following statement: I use the term 'masturbating' to describe the act of stroking my penis with panties that contain genital secretions and blood, involving direct contact with my genital area.

If the intimate clothing had been worn within the previous minutes and were obviously wet with genital fluids, there might be a small risk for the STIs transmitted primarily by skin contact (HPV, herpes, syphilis) -- but even then probably no risk at all for HIV. Oral contact also would require wet fluids in order for there to be a significant risk of infection.
The completes the two follow-up exchanges included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope the discussion has been helpful. Best wishes and stay safe.

You started a new thread just to confirm that my closing statement applies to HIV. Yes it does. The previous sentence ended with "no risk at all for HIV"; the last sentence includes HIV. (Perhaps English is not your first language? Otherwise you probably would have understood my intent. But I'm sorry for any confusion! Your new question will be deleted and your credit card reimbursed.---
