[Question #10828] Rapid POCT test
|
Hi, I took a rapid POCT test at my local GU clinic. It seems to have been a Abbott Determine Early Detect (which I believe is a 4th generation
one). Result was negative and GUM staff said I do not need to re test - would you agree ?
It is now over 2 years since the last exposures mentioned in my previous question (French kisses, receiving protected fellatio, and frottage/grinding with a CSW).

This is a repetitive question, which was answered during our last interaction. Repeating the question will not change the answer. Your test results are conclusive and do not need to be repeated. You should put your concerns about HIV aside and move forward. EWH.---

Apologies for being repetitive, and thanks for being so patient.
Initially I was elated but then I remembered seeing comments here that lab tests are more reliable so I started getting worried again…

Can I kindly ask whether you think I should follow up my rapid test with a lab test? Thanks

You do not need further testing. EWH---

Please bear with me. I had calmed down but I am now worried again as over the past two weeks since my negative rapid test I have had two consecutive aphtous mouth ulcers, below my lower lip, and I have read that such recurring ulcers can be caused by hiv. Should
I continue relying on this negative rapid POCT, over 2 years since last possible exposure, or test further ? Thanks for your patience..

As you know, we provide up to 3 responses to each client’s questions. This will be my final response. You should not need to return following the response.
It sounds like you have been on the Internet. The Internet is not your friend. Unfortunately when any number of nonspecific and all two common symptoms occur, the first thing to appear on an Internet search is HIV. You need to believe your test results. Please have complete confidence in your test results. You do not have HIV.
My advice is to stay off the Internet and to move forward without concern. There is no medical or scientific need for additional testing.
This will complete this thread. Take care. EWH.
