Hi doctors,

Doctors,

The very reason I am scared about HIV-2 as I said in my previous thread is because exposure is with African and below article.

One thing that really scared me is below article I found.

https://clinicalinfo.hiv.gov/en/guidelines/hiv-clinical-guidelines-adult-and-adolescent-arv/hiv-2-infection

In that if you see under "Diagnostic and Monitoring Assays for HIV-2 Infection", they mentioned below.

"However, it is important to note that up to one-third of people with untreated HIV-2 will have HIV-2 RNA levels below the limits of detection (10 copies/mL for UW testing and 7 IU/mL for NYSDOH testing); some of these people will have clinical progression and CD4 count decline."

The about is what is particularly scaring me out, because my rna pcr for hiv-2 on day 35 sensitivity was 10 units/ml.

I am unable to get the above article from my mind.

Could you please share your views on the above article and please share your advice on whether I can trust my pcr tests for hiv-2 on day 35 and move forward.

Please help

I'm sorry you felt the need to return to the Forum with continued questions.  On this occasion I happened to pick up your question.  In preparing to respond, I reviewed your interaction with Dr. Handsfield and agree with all that he said.  Your risk for acquiring HIV or any sort from the encounter was very low and your testing proves, beyond a doubt, that you do not have HIV of any sort.  In your earlier questions you mentioned the sensitivities of the PCR tests you had- the values you listed were the lower limits of detection of the various assays you were tested with, not your test values.

If you had HIV or any sort a test would have been positive at when tested more than 45 days after your exposure.  The reports of delayed diagnosis are overstated.  Your tests would have been positive.

I think you are unjustifiably concerned.  With all of the testing you have had, there is simply no scientific possibility that you were infected.  None whatsoever!!!!  Further testing will not change the result but may slightly increase your chances of having a falsely positive result at some point.

My advice is the same as Dr. Handsfield's- believe your tests.  To this advice I would add, please stay off the internet- much of what is there is incorrect and misleading, either because it is out of date, misinterpreted, or just plain wrong.  Also please be aware that official recommendations such as the ones you found through your searches tend to be overly conservative.   Please don't worry.  I will have nothing more to say to further repetitive, anxiety-driven questions.

I also urge you to seek counseling with a professional to overcome any guilt which may be contributing to your unwarranted fears.  EWH

Hi sir,

Sorry I had repeated the question.
I was simple worried because it was african and exposure was unprotected vaginal sex for 1 min and I had mild body aches but tested negative on the same day though.

Sure, I will trust the tests and get off from internet.

Thanks a lot sir for being such a help to this community.Without experts like you many people like me would go to severe anxiety.

Have a nice day.I wish you all doctors great health and great success.

Hi sir,

One last question. Its my 73rd day.On 69, i felt some wierd nerve and musle pain on left side of my body.Lot of bloating as well.I feel sometimes numb feet left , sometimes hand. But when i did test on 70th day, it was negative only.

Does that mean all my symptoms are something else but not HIV?I am getting afriad as some people say neuropathy can be a symptom.
I am geeting afraid even if i get a small sore sore in my mouth.

Thank you.

Neuropathy is rare in HIV.  Once again, the internet has led you astray.  If your symptoms were due to HIV, including HIV-2, your test would be positive  Please do not attribute every sign or symptom you perceive in your state of heightened anxiety to HIV.  It is not.

This completes this thread.  Please do not return to the Forum with further questions about these concerns.  If you do, since that answers are not going to change, your question may be deleted without return of your posting fee and without a response.  This is being done out of concern for you and your mental health, nothing more.  EWH
