[Question #11017] Risk of exposure to STI during massage parlour
17 months ago
|
I had a handjob provided by a sex worker in a massage parlor in January. There was no oral or penetrative sex. She was in her underwear, and during the massage, I played around her genital region (with the underwear in between) and thighs. I then absent mindedly cleaned up my penis after ejaculation with tissues using the same hand that was potentially exposed to her secretions via the underwear.
Tested negative for syphilis at 46 and 53 days (today) with Abbott rapid test
Should I wait for the 90 day window period to retest? Is there any chance of exposure of syphilis?

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment.
I can assure you that the encounter you describe was absolutely no risk for any STI‘s. Transfer of infected genital secretions on a person’s hands does not transmit STI. Therefore, even if you had some of your partner’s genital secretions on your hand, and, even if she was infected, which is unlikely, transfer of those secretions on your hand to your penis as you cleaned up does not represent a risk for acquisition of HIV or any other STI. There is no reason for concern, and no reason for additional testing.

Thanks for your answer. As a final follow up, may I know what is the confirmatory testing period for syphilis exposure in general for the population. Would a negative test at 7 weeks (49 days) be considered sufficient?

Sigh, you can't move on, can you?
A negative syphilis blood test at 7 weeks following an exposure proves that you did not acquire syphilis. Further testing is not needed.
This completes this thread. EWH
