[Question #11053] Receptive oral sex - herpes

Hello-
I am a heterosexual male with a prior history of HSV-1 infection (oral herpes). This occurred 4 years ago. Never had an outbreak except for the initial one.
Last night I received brief oral sex from a female partner who, I realized later, had a very small sore on her upper lip. It was almost completely healed and definitely not scabbing or oozing. I asked her and she said she has gotten cold sores ever since she was a child. She takes valacyclovir as soon as she feels her lips tingling and in this particular instance the cold sore she had was over a week old.
The oral sex she performed was brief and I immediately washed afterwards but I am obviously concerned.
Any advice?

Once you have HSV 1 (or 2) at one location on your body, it is highly unlikely you would acquire it in a new location.  So there's that.
In addition, if this woman takes valacyclovir AND the outbreak is a week old, there is unlikely to virus around to infect you at that point.
My suggestion would be to simply observe (not focus like a laser!) your penis for the next week or so and if you get any concerning skin changes, have it checked out.  I seriously doubt that you will!

Thank you Terri!
I was reading through some of the previous posts and you mention that in your many years you've only seen one person with Oral HSV-1 get Genital HSV-1. Would I fall into the vast majority of people who are unlikely to be infected this way?
Aside from observing, should I assume everything will be okay and relax?

You're a good reader!  That's very true.  and you would certainly fall into that category, yes.  And yes, please observe casually and try to relax about this.  So much speaks against you becoming infected in this way.
