[Question #11075] HIV

I met a prostitute. She spat in my face, and her saliva entered my eyes, nose, and mouth. She then gave me a handjob. She did not spit on my penis.

Was I at risk of getting HIV, especially if she had oral sores, bleeding gums, etc.? What if there was blood in her mouth that entered my eyes and nose?

Have you seen a case of HIV infection occurring from infected fluids (blood, genital fluids, saliva, etc.) being exposed to the eyes or nose?

Can I move on without getting tested?

Welcome to the Forum.  Thanks for your questions.

Although the CDC lists saliva/spit from an untreated, HIV infected person as "potentially" infectious There are no cases of HIV that I am aware of which have been acquired as a result of exposure to the saliva of an infected, untreated person.   The presence of dental or gum disease, mouth sores, or blood in the mouth would not change this I would have no concerns about the exposure you describe and see no reason for even testing.

I hope this information is helpful  EWH

Thank you, Doctor. This makes me feel relieved. I have a follow-up question. I forgot to mention that she also kissed, licked, and sucked my ears. Would this pose any risk of HIV if there were cuts or abrasions in and around my ears that came into contact with her mouth, lips, and tongue during the exposure?

If she licked, kissed, and sucked my small open wounds, such as broken pimples in and around my ears, am I at risk of contracting HIV if she is HIV-positive and had oral sores, bleeding gums, etc., during the exposure?

No- kissing, as well as oral contact with open woumds would not put you at risk for any STI.  Please don't worry.  EWH---
