[Question #11122] Hiv conclusiveness query

Hi sir,
Recently i feel like I had exposure while doing a blood test at STD center in india.
The phelbo was new and I am worried if he injected old needle to me with HIV in it (or) may be he has HIV and intentionally poked needle on him before poking me.
I am afraid of both HIV-1 and HIV-2 as i confirmed from that center that earlier they say HIV-2 cases too in their center.
I did below tests.
4th gen on day 8,12,17,25,29,32,33,40 and 45,46.All negative.
I am struggling a lot.I took an RNA PCR for both HIV-1 and HIV-2 on day 25 (this time confirming its q new needle)from same center but I feel may be they intentionally changed the result or sample of mine to coverup their mistake.
1)How much likely is that I am not infected with both HIV-1 and HIV-2 if I consider only my 4th gen tests alone excluding RNA PCR on day 25 because they could have changed. If not 100%, which other test do you want me to do and on what day?
2)How much likely is that I am not infected with both HIV-1 and HIV-2 if I consider only my 4th gen tests alone including RNA PCR on day 25.

Questions continued.
3)When can I be sure that I dont have HIV-1 and HIV-2 because, somewhere I see p24 is only for HIV-1 and someplaces I see, its for both just that p24 shows itself late for HIV-2.But when can i be surw I dont have both HIV-1 and HIV-2 with 4th gen because multiple sources say 6weeks,8weeks,12weeks,24weeks for HIV-2.I am confused what to trust.
4)I got serious headache and muscle aches on one side,on day 33 and I took test on day 40, And its negative. So,does that mean HIV didnt cause my symptoms.
5)If i have symptoms tosay and I test negative 4th gen on the next day, does that mean it is not from HIV?

Welcome to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services.
I am very skeptical of the premise of your question: I find it almost impossible to believe that the phlebotomist drew your blood with a used needle. It has been 30 years or more since there were any documented cases of HIV being acquired by needle exposures in medical settings -- not since the days when re-usable needles were not routinely sterilized between patients. And the fact that the facility treats patients with HIV (of either or both types) makes no difference. Almost certainly you were not exposed and I would have advised against being tested for HIV on account of these events.
Having said that, the test results you had are 100% reliable and prove you were not infected with either HIV1 or HIV2.
Those comments answer your questions 1-3.
4,5) Your last question shows you correctly understand that negative test results indeed mean your symptoms are not due to HIV. It is not possible to have HIV symptom and test negative for HIV antibody.
You have all the evidence you need to be "10000%" certain you do not have HIV.
I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Hi sir,
Thank you for your kind words.I was worried of used needle as well as reusable vaccutainer container.
Last three questions sir.
1.What is the window period of HIV-2 as some say p24 is only for HIV-1 and some say p24 is for both but shows up early for HIV-1 but late for HIV-2.Is it 6weeks,8weeks,12 weeks,24 weeks with 4th gen because I am unable to trust the RNA PCR results they shared with me on day 25 which is negative.
2.If i trust their RNA PCR, is 25th day conclusive?
3)Do you suggest one more RNA test from some other lab if i dont trust their result (or) any final 4th gen to completely close HIV-2 as well, if so on what day as i tested till day 46.
Please help me sir.

Re-used vacutainer holders do not risk transmission of any infection.
!. The AgAb (4th generation) HIV blood tests are conclusive for HIV2 by 6 weeks.
2. The most recent HIV RNA tests detect both HIV1 and HIV2. You'll have to ask your local lab whether their test detects both viruses. However, you can rely on the AgAb test result without the RNA test result.
3. You did not need any testing at all -- there was no chance you were infected. Even if I thought you were at risk, I would not advise any tests beyond the ones already done.

Hi sir,
Thanks a lot for your response.
These are my final two questions sir.
1.In internet, some sources say 6 weeks,8 weeks, 3 months and 6 months for HIV-2.In some other question, you suggested 8 weeks sir.Which week can I take it as conclusive for AgAb for HIV-2(Assuming I am exposed to HIV-2 via needle on that day)
2.The RNA pcr test i have done on day 25 is for HIV-2 and HIV-1 seperately. Is it reliable?
I am just worried which week is conclusive for AgAb sir for HIV-2 because I am worried as needle is higg risk exposure and dont want to put my future spouse at risk.Thats why I am looking for 10000% confirmation.
Please guide me sir.

1. Anyone can write anything they want online. I stand by my advice.
2. If the RNA test is for HIV2, it is completely reliable for that virus.
That completes the two follow-up exchanges included with each question and so ends this thread. I hope you're now able to go forward with understand that you were at zero risk for HIV, that testing wasn't necessary, but that in any case the test results prove you don't have it. Best wishes and stay safe.
