[Question #11187] Unprotected oral sex and sex

Hello I received oral sex from a young lady on 3-29-24 lasting less than 2 minutes probably less she developed a cold sore 4-1-24. I have monitored my self for the full 12 days no lesions or sores that I notice, felt like I had tingling and fever but no sores so i chalked it up to anxiety. This was her first noticeable out break since her initial one as a child so the first in at least 12 years. She also took a plan b the next day along with her period starting I don't know if that triggered her outbreak. I'm not really worried about other stds because we both were recently tested. I just want to know what should my next step be concerning hsv. She also used mouthwash around 15-30 minutes before the short sexual act. I'm really looking for guidance on if I should worry or move on with my life. Thank you guys so much.

There is really nothing to do at this point except continue to observe casually for any penile skin changes. If any lesions do show up, have them swab tested for HSV. Have you ever had a cold sore on your lip or inside your nose? If yes, then you already have this virus, albeit in a different location, and you would be extremely unlikely to acquire this same virus in a new location. I do think you should move on with your life. If this continues to worry you and you can't let it go, you could do an antibody test for HSV 1. The IgG test misses 30% of HSV 1 infections, compared to the gold standard western blot, just so you know.

Ok are you suggesting testing without symptoms? I have seen a few responses on here that didn't suggest it after one exposure. Was this a high risk exposure is my percentage of contracting it from this exposure high? I don't have a history of cold sores to my knowledge. Sorry for so many questions. Just need a little more clarity before I move forward.

I am NOT suggesting testing without anhiy symptoms, no. I'm saying if, for some reason, you cannot accept in your mind that you did not acquire HSV 1 from this experience, that you could test with an IgG test. The IgG test for HSV 1 has some false positives, though far less than with HSV 2. Its problem is a high false negative rate.
I do not think that your experience was high risk, no, but someone developing a cold sore so soon after giving you oral sex could be worrisome, especially if you developed any skin changes. But you didn't so I think you should try very hard to let this go and move on with your life. And you aren't asking too many questions!
