[Question #11205] Risk,testing, antibiotics

Hi there,
Had an exposure with a stripper (drugged, don’t remember anything), Early Am on March 22nd, and tested on March 29th (exactly 7 days later)

Prior to testing I took 1 dose of  the 14 day doxy (100mg for 14 days) and metronidazole (500mg tablet). I received negative results for chlaymida, Gonnorrehea and trich, HIv and syphilis. from test taken on 29th. Right after testing I took my cefixime prescription  (400mg capsule)

From 29- April 11th I completed doxy 100mg for 14 days (did puke one dose up).

Few questions:
1.) Could my 1 dose of doxy affect my chalymida result or is my negative result 7 days later w/ one dose taken prior to test conclusive?

2.) I am assuming since I took cefixime after testing, that the negative  for gono is conclusive,  agree? Since I hadn’t taken it at the time of testing.

3.)Trich- same question would dose 1 day prior affect results?

4:) On approximately April 3rd I fingered my GF, and use my saliva as lube. Do I need to worry about passing anything to her? Based on what I have seen from your responses, it doesn’t look like it? We have also deep kissed, no concerns there?

5.) Now that I have taken all my prescriptions to completion, when should I retest? I want to make sure my antibiotics didn’t cause false negatives.

I will be retesting 45 days after exposure for syphilis, and HIV. Will those results (assuming negative) be conclusive?

No symptoms, just stress.

welcome to the Forum. Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment.  The encounter you describe was low risk. Most strippers/commercial sex workers do not have STIs and even when they do, most single exposures do not lead to infection.   In response to your specific questions:

1.) Could my 1 dose of doxy affect my chalymida result or is my negative result 7 days later w/ one dose taken prior to test conclusive? Theoretically this is a possibility but it is unlikely.  Further, if your chlamydia test was taken within 12-18 hours of taking the doxycycline, the doxy would have little impact on the accuracy of your urine test.

2.) I am assuming since I took cefixime after testing, that the negative  for gono is conclusive,  agree? Since I hadn’t taken it at the time of testing.
Correct.  Both for the reasons stated above as well as the fact that many gonococci are not susceptible to doxycycline.

3.)Trich- same question would dose 1 day prior affect results?
The doxy would have no impact whatsoever on your trich test

4:) On approximately April 3rd I fingered my GF, and use my saliva as lube. Do I need to worry about passing anything to her? Based on what I have seen from your responses, it doesn’t look like it? We have also deep kissed, no concerns there?
No reasons for concern here

5.) Now that I have taken all my prescriptions to completion, when should I retest? I want to make sure my antibiotics didn’t cause false negatives.
If there are no symptoms, the only reason to re-test is for your reassurance.  If you choose to test for that reason, then testing any time more than 5-7 days after completion of antibiotics will provide conclusive results

I hope this information is helpful.  I see little to worry about here.  EWH

Following up here;

1.) The doxy was taken probably closer to 20-22 hours before testing. Any major impact to negative results?

I took cefixime for the Gonno and not doxy. But that was taken after blood had been drawn, so assuming results for gonno are conclusive?

Trich I took the metronidazole. Any major impact to negative results?

And no concern for saliva used as lube? It was just a quick lick
Of fingers and then fingering

Would HIV/ Syphilis test at 45 days be conclusive?

1.   Probably no effect but cannot be 100% sure.  Taking antibiotics as you did raises questions that will only be answered by f/u testing.
2,  Understood about cefixime.  Doxy is effective against some GC, thus same answer as for no. 1 above.
3.  Your trich results are certainly reliable

No concerns about saliva as lube (I thought you didn't remember anything).  Fingering (masturbation is a no risk activity)

Your 45 day syphilis test is conclusive.  EWH

Understood; will follow up post 5 days off doxy.

The saliva question was in regards to my GF, not the incident. I was making sure she had nothing to worry about transmission wise post 12 days as we haven't had sex just the fingering

Thanks for the clarification.  I would have no concerns about saliva.  EWH---

One last follow up question:
If I took doxy 100mg 2X daily for 14 days from March 28th- April 11th could that “extend” the syphilis testing window? Aka- is a test with/without Doxy at 45 days still conclusive?

I will am retesting for gono/chlaymidia today 7 days post doxy (assuming negative) and waiting until the 45 day mark for syphilis/hiv

Final Response:

If you had acquired syphilis, the doxycycline you took would not have "extended" the time needed to develop a positive syphilis test. Rather, if infection was present or developing, it would have cured syphilis.

I anticipate that your tests will show that you were no t infected.

This completes this thread.  EWH
