[Question #11207] Transmission rates of female HSV-2 positive to male negative

Thank you for the work that you all do. There is so much conflicting information out there. Which brings me to my question about transmission rates.
What is the likelihood (percentage wise) of a positive HSV-2 female transmitting to male partner via cunnilingus (no dental dam). I know this is rare, but would like more concrete information. Would daily antiviral medication reduce that number even further?
Could you provide stats (again positive HSV-2 female transmitting to male partner) via penetrative sex as well without and with condoms and daily antiviral medication.
Thank you again.

Unfortunately, we have no data on your question. We do know that HSV 2 doesn't like the mouth or oral area so it rarely lives there, and when it does, it rarely recurs or shed.
In discordant couples, where the female is infected and the male is not, having sex about twice per week with no intervention, the risk is about 4% per year that a male will become infected.
Add antiviral medicine daily, and it reduces the risk by 48%. Add condoms, and it reduces the risk by 65%. Together they make the risk incredibly low.

This information was so helpful. Thank you. I’m assuming that the risk is also reduced by 48% for the negative partner contracting HSV-2 on the mouth when positive partner is on suppressive antiviral therapy. Would this be correct?

Again, we don't have that data, only genital to genital transmission data, I'm afraid
