[Question #11219] HIV Risk?

Hello Sir,
I have this following scenario. 5 days back I had sex with a high end russian escort. The encounter included unprotected oral once and protected vaginal twice. I checked the condoms and they were intact and no breaks.
Today I have started with a sorr throat. So little anxious for the risk. Could you please guide me about the risk of this exposure and what would be my next course of action? I do regularly test for HIV and the last test was 2 months back and this is the only encounter I have after that.
Regards,

Welcome back to our forum. Thanks for your questions. I’ll be glad to comment.
Your risk for HIV from the exposure you described is minuscule. As you know, STI‘s, including HIV are relatively uncommon amongst high-end commercial sex workers. Even more importantly, however, you used a condom for your vaginal exposures and there is no known risk for acquisition of HIV for receipt of oral sex. Finally, I am confident that your sore throat is due to something other than HIV. Five days is too early for the onset of sore throat or other ARS symptoms due to acquisition of HIV.

Thank you sir for the response. Just last question here.
Would you have recommended testing or PEP for this kind of exposure?

I absolutely oppose the use of PEP in this situation. Testing is always a personal choice, but your risk is very, very low and if I were you, I would not bother to test. EWH---

Thanks a lot sir for the response.
One last follow up question is it typical of ARS to show only slight disconfort/pain in the throat during the 10-18 days window of the exposure with no other symptoms? Cause I had a slight discomfort in the throat with little phelgm in between those days with no other symptoms.

The symptoms you described do not suggest the ARS. While the ARS, on those occasions when it occurs, occurs most typically between 10 and 30 days after an exposure it is characterized by severe symptoms. Typically multiple symptoms are present at the same time and include high fever, severe sore throat, widespread muscle, and joint aches, as well as occasionally a skin rash. Slight sore throat, and the absence of no other symptoms do not suggest the ARS.
I hope the information I have provided has been helpful. As you know, we provide up to three responses to each clients question. Is this is my third response, the thread will be closed shortly. EWH.
