[Question #11230] Giving oral

I will cut to the chase, I have read through the forum and am appreciative of all the advice… my question is as follows

If I gave fellato to a man… short exposure, shallow - nothing deep into the throat,  mostly licking and tip of penis sucking -did not taste pre- ejaculate and no ejaculation occurred. What the the realistic chances of getting a chlamydia or gonorrhea oral infection… secondly if I took 1 g oz azithromycin a few hours after exposure- would that prevent both infections from manifesting?

Welcome to our Forum.  Thanks for your questions.  I'll be glad to comment.  Performing oral sex on a male is a relatively low risk sexual encounter.  Most men do not have gonorrhea or chlamydia and most single exposures do not result in transmission of infection even when a partner does have infection.  For reasons that are not well understood chlamydia in particular does not infect the throat very well and for that reason chlamydial infections of the throat are very rare.  Gonorrhea does infect the throat a bit more commonly but is still rather uncommon following a single exposure to a partner who you do not know was infected.  The only way to be sure however is to test.  Both gonorrhea and chlamydia of the throat are typically asymptomatic.

Taking azithromycin a few hours after exposure would reduce your risk for infection even more.  Precisely how much is hard to say.

If I were in your situation, I would not be worried however, if you wish to be completely sure, I would suggest testing after waiting at least 4-7 days after your encounter.

Thank you so much for your reply. If the penis did not have any contact with the back of my throat - does that also lower the risk?

What would be the chances of me transmitting an infection to another penis if again there was no contact with back of throat, only shallow sucking?

There are no scientific studies to answer your question although it is logical that if the penis did not reach the back of your throat there is little to worry about.  The same is true about transmission from you, if you were infected, to another person's penis.

No matter how you consider it, as I've already said, this was a very low risk encounter.  Please don't worry.  EWH
