[Question #11299] HBV question

Doctors, I have been battling STD OCD for years, especially HBV.  Please don't get mad at me for asking you another question, I have been in therapy but I have two things that are still scaring me - and my therapist said to just ask you to see if I can finally get closure.  I recently tried to get my labwork from 1999 but couldn't as the records are gone.  When I found out that my initial test was inconclusive I called the hospital and the nurse read my the results HBsAG (-), HBsAB (-), HBcAB (+) - but my OCD is causing me to have false memories and it was so long ago - I just get scared that it was the HBcAB (+).  I was tested again in 2013, and 2022 and was negative for all markers.

(1) Since I can't find the 1999 test does it matter - does the subsequent serology (all markers negative) prove that the false positive had to be the HBcAB, because I was never vaccinated, and if I was truly infected with HBV - I would have had the HBcAB positive in all three tests because it lasts for life - the HBcAB couldn't have just disappeared in 13 years and the second negative last year proves this?

(2) The only risk factor I can think of before the 1999 test was I fingered a FSW with a tiny cut on my cuticle from me biting - it wasn't actively bleeding, but it was fresh enough that it stung - is this a risk factor for HBV?

I know this against your policy to keep answering questions on same topic - but I am in a really bad place today and my therapist this morning said to just ask a doctor you trust to see if can get closure - there is no-one I trust more than the two of you - so if you could answer this for me, I would be incredibly grateful.

I'm sorry you felt the need to return with more questions.  Both Dr. Handsfield and I have discussed your concerns with you on multiple occasions.  I suspect that intellectually you know that your concerns are a reflection of your OCD, nothing more.

Your test results prove that you have never had hepatitis.  Your 1999 results are irrelevant.  If you had had hepatitis, your subsequent tests would have shown this.

You need to move on.  Continue to work on your OCD.  There is no need for groundless fears about hepatitis.  EWH

Thanks so much for answering doc - so the HBcAB is the key marker in my situation it being negative in 2013 & 2022 means I never had HBV and even if I am not certain 100% about my 1999 tests and what marker was positive it had to be the HBcAB because it lasts for life - is this correct?  This then obviously means that fingering with a cut was irrelevant - this is what I believe I know intellectually - is what I just wrote all correct?  Thank you so much dr. Hook - I am doing so much better, and therapy is really helping - but your reassurance helps as well.  Thank you again, after you answer this question, you can close this out and thank you for what you do

sorry I didn't write my response correctly - let me try again:  the HBcAB is the key marker in my situation it being negative in 2013 & 2022 means I never had HBV and that is how you know I never had HBV, because the HBcAB persists for life.  Even if I am not certain 100% about my 1999 tests and which marker was positive it had to be the HBcAB because I was never vaccinated and if it was the HBsAG - then my HBcAB would have to have been positive in the subsequent tests.  This is what I think intellectually - am I correct in this logic?
(IGNORE THE second thread I didn't write what i was asking correctly)

This is repetitive.  Your follow up summarized my earlier reply.  You never had hepatitis B.

I will not feed your OCD by repeating this again.   I do it out of respect and concern, nothing more.  EWH
