[Question #11304] Oral Gonorrhea

Hey Docs, I’m back with another question. So I previously explained my last situation about giving a male oral for about 6-10 seconds without ejaculation in my mouth. As far as Oral Gonorrhea, I got an oral swab done at 9 days post exposure. Is that enough time for the swab to detect it or did I have to wait longer? The test was negative so I’m hoping that I should be okay. Also, does oral gonorrhea cause symptoms such as cough, congestion, clear mucas, post nasal drip, headache and swollen lymph nodes under the jaw? Or is that due to something else? Thank you!

I should also add sore throat to that as well for things I’m experiencing. I’m assuming maybe just allergies or something else going on.

Welcome back to the Forum.  On this occasion I happened to pick up your current follow-up questions.  In preparing to respond I reviewed your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and agree with all that he said.  I would point out that the final sentence of his response was- "There's been plenty of time for valid gonorrhea testing on a throat swab. There is no point in any blood tests sooner than 6 weeks after exposure."

I agree with this statement 100%.  If you had oral gonorrhea it would have been detected by the throat swab you had at 9 days.

Regarding symptoms, most oral gonorrhea is asymptomatic although it can occasionally cause a mild sore throat.  Congestion, cough, mucous production are not caused by oral gonorrhea (not by other STIs)  It sounds to me like you have a "usual" sore throat/upper respiratory tract infection of the sort that most of us get from time to time

I would urge you not to worry further and move forward without concern.  EWH.
