[Question #11334] Hiv and symptoms
|
On April 29, I met a friend whose sexual partners I knew nothing about. She sucked my penis without protection for just a minute, and I stopped her.
On the morning of May 9, I made a HIV PCR test. ( still i'm waiting the result )
I asked her made HIV AB test for her, the result was negative
10 days after the incident (congestion and fever, I took medication and the fever and congestion stopped after two days)
Should I go back to my wife? I am afraid. Please help

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. Receipt of oral sex (fellatio) is a no risk event in terms for HIV risk. There has never been a case of HIV proven to have been acquired from receipt of oral sex. Your test results prove this. HIV cannot be transmitted to others by persons who have negative tests and when symptoms are due to HIV, tests are always positive. Further, HIV PCR tests are conclusive when taken 11-12 days following an exposure. Thus, from many lines of evidence, you can be confident that you were not infected by the exposure you describe. I see no need for continuing concern and no need for further testing.

Thank you for the response, Doctor. The test was for the girl and not for me, and I am waiting for the results of my test. Were the symptoms due to the regular flu, and do you advise me to have sex with my wife without protection?

Person with flu-like symptoms due to HIV always have positive tests. When your test returns as negative, you can be 100% confident that you did not acquire HIV from the no risk exposure you described. You can confidently resume unprotected sex with your wife. EWH---

Sorry results of PCR tests are not considered conclusive until at least 11 days following an exposure. Despite that however, as noted above, NO ONE has EVER acquired HIV from receipt of oral sex. You are not going to be the first. Please don't worry. EWH---
