[Question #11342] White Spots

Is it possible for the first symptom of ars to be painless white spots or ulcers at the back of the throat 6 days after the sexual activity?  Have maybe 2 on one tonsil, and 1 on the other.
Currently not much pain and/or fever etc but wasn’t sure if I should be bracing for the next few days

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions questions and your implied confidence in our service. I’ll be glad to comment.

The symptoms of the ARS come on all at about the same time. The critical components of the ARS include a severe sore throat and high fever. In addition, many persons have widespread muscle and joint aches. A smaller proportion have a widespread skin rash or diarrhea. The symptoms you described do not suggest the ARS and have begun a bit early. The ARS typically occurs between 10 and 20 days following acquisition of infection and virtually never occurs more than 30 days after infection has been acquired.

I hope this information is helpful to you. EW.

Hi,

Thanks for the below response.

Acknowledging symptoms can’t form a diagnosis, and have had tonsillitis confirmed with a GP (no fever or aches just tonsilitis with pus) is it worth taking an RNA test at 9 days post exposure or does it have to wait to 10 days as a minimum to count? (9 meaning weekend, 10 meaning taking hours off work)

I know this isn’t the best method for testing and would still follow this up with a 4th gen Ag/Ab blood test at 6 weeks.

If you wish to receive conclusive results from HIV RNA’ PCR test, the test should be taken at least 11 days following an exposure. Results taken at days nine or even earlier will not be conclusive. EWH.---
