[Question #11384] Oral sex
|
Nine weeks ago, I engaged in unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with a commercial sex worker. I have had no pus, sores, or sore throat since. Here are my testing results: all negative. At 10 days, I had a NAAT swab and urine test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. At 2 weeks, I had tests for HIV RNA, Syphilis EIA, and Hepatitis C/B. At 8 weeks, I had another Syphilis EIA test. Should I be concerned about Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma, or Trichomonas in the throat? Are all these tests considered conclusive, and can I stop worrying about STDs?

Welcome to our forum. Thank you for your questions and for your implied confidence in our service. I’ll be glad to comment.
The encounter you described was very low risk. Most commercial sex workers do not have STI‘s, including HIV, and even when they do, most single exposures do not lead to transmission of infection. You have an added degree of safety because a condom was used for your vaginal encounter and few STI‘s Are transmitted through receipt of oral sex. There are no proven cases of HIV that have been acquired from receipt of oral sex. Finally, you’re testing for all STI’s, which you’ve tested for is absolutely conclusive and proves that you were not infected.
Regarding the other STI‘s that you have questions about, there is no evidence that Mycoplasma genitalium or trichamonas is present in the oral cavity or transmitted through oral sex. The idea that ureaplasma is a sexually transmissible pathogen is an urban myth. Ureaplasma is common in the genital tract but is normal but does not cause STI morbidity.
I encourage you to accept that your test results are conclusive and that you need no further testing for STI of any sort. It is time to move forward without concern.
I hope this information is helpful to you. Please don’t worry. EWH.

Thanks for the reply,
That’s great to hear and very encouraging. The only reason I’m here is I have had a fury tounge and a globus feeling with my throat feeling like its producing excess mucus that’s been ongoing since.
I did have a minor sore throat before engaging in this activity and had a cocktail of medicine after oral sex including 2g azithromyzin due to being scared. I was worried about hpv but I am fully vaccinated against this. Would it still be an issue?
Should I get on with my life and put my mouth down to other issues?

Your HPV vaccination will protect you from Acquisition of oral HPV. The sensations that you were experiencing in your throat are in no way suggestive of any STI.
I encourage you to put your concerns aside and move forward. Certainly, I see no reason for testing at this point EWH

Final question as this will rest my mind - if I where to have contracted herpes that night either hsv1/2 be it via oral sex or at the base of the condom from the penetration sex I would have showed symptoms by now at 9 weeks how likely is it to hide for months?
Just curious as there is so much bad info out there. What would you say the overall risk of oral sex is from male to female. From a percentage point of getting an sti?
Overall I have covered everything and with the absence of any typical symptoms and the low exposure risk or oral sex and the protected intercourse I can relax and will see my GP for my throat issue.

HSV-2 is virtually never acquired from the sorts of exposures you describe. Nor is HSV-1. If you were going to develop herpes lesions, that would have occurred within 10 days of your exposure.
Please don’t worry and move on. EWH
