[Question #11403] Chance of STD

Hey docs,

Last Saturday morning 5/25, I went to to a massage parlor and had the following

1. Oral kissing with tongue invovled
2. Protected vaginal sex that lasted maybe 2 minutes
3. Brief unprotected oral (5 seconds if that). Mostly consisted of kissing the penis head. Worst case scenario. I want to say maybe zero contact with her lips and my penis head but I’m not 100% sure. Maybe 90% sure.
I didn’t think nothing of this encounter as I was safe until I got on here and came across STDs with oral sex. Now of course I feel my penis get hot randomly and I feel like I’m creating these symptoms on myself.

Would you guys say I’m at near zero chance of having something. Oral std or Ngu? Can I go back to my life and sexual partner with no concerns?

I’ve squeezed my penis head and zero discharge, zero discomfort when peeing, and no leakage of any sort.
Would I see any symptoms by now? I read about NGU and something about 8 days until you get symptoms, is this true?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions   I'll be glad to comment.  I agree with your assessment- the encounter you describe was close to no, if not completely, no risk.  You don't say much about your partner but most persons to not have STIs and when they do, most single exposures do not lead to infection.  Regarding risks, breaking things down:
-"Deep kissing"- virtually no risk although there are a few reports in which deep kissing may have transmitted gonorrhea
-Condom protected vaginal sex- virtually no risk as long as the condom was worn throughout the encounter
-Brief, if any, receipt of oral sex.  Again, gonorrhea is occasionally but not often transmitted in this way.

If you had acquired gonorrhea, there is a more than 90% change you would have symptoms by now.
Nothing you report suggests any risk for HIV or other STIs.

Bottom line, I would not be worried at this time.  If you are and desire the comfort of proving that you were not infected, get a urine test for gonorrhea (and chlamydia, they are typically done together0.  I anticipate that the results will be negative and at this time, these results will be conclusive.

Please do not repeatedly or vigorously examine yourself- this is likely to cause irritation which might be mistaken for an STI.  If you have symptoms, you will know it.

Bottom line, this was a very low risk expsoure.  I would not worry and see no reason to abstain from unprotected sex with your regular partner.  EWH

Thank you doc! I just needed this peace of mind from the experts.
Would you mind explaining oral STDs such as where they reside at? From what I read, it’s at the back of mouth correct?
What is the difference between NGU and oral gonorrhea?
I’ve read through google but often times it’s incorrect information.

Lastly, I’ve seen some websites say testing after 48 hours for gonorrhea and clymidia is okay. But I’ve seen your recommendations 3-5. I use stdcheck.com

The encounter was with a CSW. She’s a married CSW that has been doing this for over 10 years.

You are correct. Most oral STI, such as gonorrhea reside in the back of the throat.

NGU stands for non-gonococcal urethritis. This is inflammation of the penis caused by bacteria other than gonorrhea. Chlamydia is one cause of NGU, but other bacteria can also cause this sort of irritation.  NGU is typically treated with antibiotic such as doxycycline or azithromycin while gonorrhea is treated with different antibiotics.

Testing two days following your encounter should provide accurate results although as you notice, I recommendation is to wait until three or more days simply to allow the infection to establish itself at detectable levels.

Your testing should be accurate at this time. EWH.

Thanks for your answer! One last question out of curiosity.
You mention oral STD. How soon would this show up and what kind of early symptoms would one be having?

Most oral STIs are asymptomatic and would be detected only by testing. When symptoms of a throat infection are present, they tend to be mild, sometimes causing a sore throat.

This completes this thread.  Once again, I encourage you to move forward without concern.  EWH
