[Question #11434] Sti risk?

Hello,
I had an escort visit me yesterday and the majority of our activities were very safe. However she did begin to give me unprotected oral. Though it felt great I stopped it after literally 10 seconds due to concern. What is my risk?

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your question. I'll be glad to comment. Few single exposures, even those with commercial sex workers, lead to STIs. This is because most people do not have STIs and because most single exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection. Among unprotected penetrative exposures, receipt of oral sex is amongst the lowest risk. The major STIs acquired from receipt of oral sex are gonorrhea and nongonococcal urethritis. Gonorrhea becomes symptomatic in over 90% of infected persons within 3-5 days of exposure, NGU which is often local irritation which often goes away on its own may cause milder symptoms (burning on urination, penile discharge). Syphilis and herpes are very rare and there has never been a case of HIV proven to have been acquired from receipt of oral sex.
In your case, we presume that shorter exposures are lower risk. Thus what you describe is a very low risk encounter. Depending on your level of concern, you may choose to test. If you choose to test, the most important test to have is a urine test for gonorrhea (typically when tested for gonorrhea, specimens are also automatically tested for chlamydia which is very, very unlikely from the exposure you describe)
I hope this information is helpful. EWH
