[Question #11460] Herpes and Hiv

Hi,I had unprotected sex on nov 25th 2023 . After three weeks I got fever and started observing flat red rashes . And my lips got swollen and got one white color fluid pimple/granule on my lip . And about the rashes on glans if I mastrubate on night till morning I used to see rashes which last like 2 days max .or sometimes it will disappear on same day

TESTING :1) I have given std 10 panel test from quest diagnostics on feb 7th 2024 All stds came back negative except hsv1Lab reading : hsv1 Ab IgG >58.00(abnormal)

Hsv2 Ab Ig < 0.90 (normal)

2) I have given another test on February 28th 2024 which is std 10 panel test from labcorp , all stds came back negative except hsv1Lab reading : hsv1 Ab IgG >58.00(abnormal)Hsv2 Ab Ig < 0.90 (normal)

3)I visited urologist on March 23 rd 2024 I told him that I am getting flat red rashes on my glans and also told him that I observed they are coming only after mastrubation according to me . He take a look at my glans and said it looks like blantatis for him .And I provided him reports from both labs then he said I need to be on pills named valacyclovir .

And I have given one more std 10 panel test on March 28th 2024 from labcorp .All came back negative except hsv1 .After this test I believed that I really have herpes (hsv1) and started using valacyclovir.And I googled myself and ordered ointment named ‘ terrasil ‘ thinking that rashes on my glans are if in case blantatis . After I have started using both my rashes disappeared . Technically not coming after I mastrubate .Then my mind started thinking wierd what if I have hiv ?even the above panels showed negative for it ,all are fourth gen tests

I have given qualitative hiv1/hiv2 rna on April 9th 2024 from labcorp which is non reactive . And I have give one more fourth generation test for hiv on April 29th from labcorp which is negative .I have given another std 10 panel test on may 9th .from labcorp where all stds came back negative except hsv1 . And I have given another fourth generation test for hiv on may 29th which came back negative

So total 6 fourth generation tests and one qualitative hiv1/hiv2 rna test I have done

These 6 months passed away by giving tests . My questions are

1) after listening to my story do I have oral herpes or genital herpes

2 )am I free from rest of std ‘s escpecially hiv

3) from 98 days after exposure I started using valacyclovir which urologist prescribed till date . Will this affect my hiv fourth gen tests ?and other std tests

Good day, do you have a history of cold sores or fever blisters on your lip? It sounds from your post like you do. Is that accurate? If yes, then that's where the positive HSV 1 result is coming from. Write me back about this, OK? If you had almost three months off antiviral meds to make antibody, it is unlikely that the valacyclovir would impact your herpes test. The HIV test results should certainly be accurate at this point.

Hi ,

As I said I only got one time white granule on my lip and got swollen , which lasted only for only one week and never I got them back .but flat red rashes used to continue right after mastrubation or may be I was wrong , till I visited urologist and started using valacyclovir and terrasil blantatis ointment . Last two months that flat red rashes won’t came back . But I stopped using terraisil ointment I observed from rashes slightly red not like before . But I am using valacyclovir from last two months didn’t stopped .

My question is do I have oral or genital herpes ?

And one more thing I have tested for other stds all came negative including hiv . You go see previous notes in this thread . Do I need more testing for hiv ?

You do not need more HIV testing.

I saw your description of the lip lesion but didn't know if you would describe it as a cold sore. Most often, when people are positive for HSV 1, their infection is oral. But if you received oral sex, you could also have this genitally. HSV 1 in the genitals would not present as a red rash. If you stop the valacyclovir, and you get sores either on your mouth or genitals, be sure to see a clinician and have the sores swab tested. I think the most likely explanation is that you have oral herpes, but I cannot be certain about the location.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply . Yesterday also I did another fourth generation test . It was negative . I don’t know if I need mental support or not .

I keep on getting anxious about other stds which are negative . I only got once a white granule with fluid and two swollen red color pimples on my lips . After that I never got it . But on my glans I don’t know what’s happening some days the rashes won’t come some days after mastrubation it will .but from last two n half months I am using valacyclovir . How long I need to use them .

But when I apply blantatis ointment on glans they are appearing . I started using both valacyclovir and ointment both at same time but I stopped using cream recently . I saw yesterday small red rashes on my glans after mastrubating

The symptoms that you describe on your lips could be a cold sore, which would account for your HSV 1 positive result. If you get another, I would suggest that you get a swab test to see if it is HSV 1.

I don't know what the red rash is on your glans but perhaps a fungal infection. You can buy antifungal creams over the counter if you are in the US. This is usually NOT a sexually transmitted infection.
